My friend Ron and I just drove up hwy 36 right into the path of the fire, and went into the ishi wilderness to get a look at things, we saw the fire come up over hogsback ridge at an alarming pace so we bailed.
Went to Manton, on the other side of 36 directly in the fires path to check on our friend Eliott.
Eliott, cut his goats and sheep loose and was pretty much ready to go when we got there. He's leaving his home and farm and hopefully he has the sense to come to my farm. His sheep and goats will be on their own, I swooped his last hen to come live with mine, and his dogs are in the truck.
This wildfire is unlike anything any of us have ever seen and I've lived here nearly 40 years.

Cal Fire now estimating 307,369 acres (408 sq miles) burned, 0% contained. San Diego, the eighth most populous city in the USA, has an area of 342.5 sq miles or 219,200 acres.

Thankfully there's just not a lot of people out there. The area it burned has an extremely low population and terrible roads and that's exactly what I look for in a 4 wheel drive area. I've been back into that country multiple times in the past year, and it's due for a burn.
People up there seem to be getting their things and getting out. So far nobody has died, let's all be thankful for that.
To loosely quote George Carlin.
"Save the planet? The planet will be fine, it's the people, the people are Facht but earth will be just fine.

I thought you guys might appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this table. Circa 1945 Brunswick Centennial. It was rebuilt from the ground up by one of, if not the best, Brunswick experts in the US, Mark Gregory. Original aircraft aluminum castings have been nickel plated so they won't oxidize. Satin finish rosewood rails and bases (just like the original). I only had to wait a little over 3 years for the table so, yes, Land Cruiser restorations aren't the only things that take time. Mark and his team delivered the table and light on Friday. It was like Christmas in July.

Wow, work of art there! Had me at aircraft!

Just got back from Oshkosh, WI from Airventure. Wife and I drove the RV, my son flew our old 182 up there which is super cool accomplishment landing at worlds busiest airport for the week. He did run over some debris on runway which caused front tire flat, no biggie it can be fixed!
Great week, tons of fun. I tried on a helicopter I’ll never be able to own which sucks cause it felt so right!!!

My dad wanted me to take pic of Joshua next to old airplane tire like we took when he was super tiny. We took many father son trips to Oshkosh through the years. Joshua has been probably 13-14 times in his 21 years. I’ve never seen him more excited to be there in all our years than this year.

There were huge quantities of aluminum that were dumped on the market after WW2. Companies got very creative with the material given its sudden over supply.

So how long would it take you to get a license to fly that helicopter given that you already have a pilot’s license?

20 hours dual and 10 hours of solo. Not too big of a deal. I’m checking with some local places about instruction when it’s cooler.
I was flight paramedic about 50 pounds ago (25 years ago) and still have a passion for helicopters.
I think it would be a blast to have an old Bell 47!

Love the floats, not sure where it’s from, maybe I’m too young? Lol
