Man, that is huge. Back somewhere @ the early sixties when they were building all the highways out of St. Louis, my brother and I would see a lot of smaller cranes. We'd get a laugh every time seeing one, the company's name was Big Boy Erection. Boys will be boys.

I saw a lot of big lifts and cranes over my career but by far this one in northern Saudi Arabia was the largest. I was onsite for about half of these lifts. We shipped in a Mammoet 3200 ton ringer from Europe and had two larger crawlers as well. Took more than 100 trucks to get that crane from the port to site, IIRC. That's a really good question. I think concrete but I'm not 100% positive. I'll try to find out.

We had to use this crane because we didn't want to remove the refractory liner from the inside of the existing towers in order to minimize downtime. Otherwise we would have had the tower refractory demoed and could have used a much smaller ringer. Of course that would have added a month or more to the turnaround.

@J Mack they used screened sand from the site. That makes a lot more sense than concrete.

They got the Liebherr stretched out a bit to make a two-crane pick to lift the kiln tire off the truck bed. I might be off, but want to say the tire weighs 175K lbs. The heavy haul truck powered out on a slight hill en route to where you see it here and had to be pulled up with a 980 loader.

The cement plant where I work just went into an outage, with some major projects underway. One of the biggest jobs will require a big crane to do some really heavy lifting.

It’s a Liebherr, not sure of the model or tonnage designation, but it’s gotta be the most massive hydraulic truck crane I’ve seen in person.

And if I had one that erect, I would name it BIG RED to

Winter is visiting, minus 16c this morning, very little wind thankfully.

Just worrying about pipes freezing up but it’s sunny & beautiful otherwise.

Water off in the single wide so pipes won’t freeze. We can turn it on enough to shower when that time comes but it takes some logistics for sure!

16 degrees here right now with wind chill 2. Stepped over to shop and it’s in mid 40s without heat. Filling radiant heater up and gonna play in shop all day.

Folks around here don’t prepare well for these weather events no fault of their but storing water, treating diesel is something most don’t consider. Dealt with gelling in my diesel in past and fuel treated in Colorado so never worried about it. Skid steer, tractor and trucks all treated.

I’m sure @PabloCruise is dealing with some ugly weather right now, none of which I miss.

I think we're all getting blasted right now. I had to dig out the insulated coveralls this morning, busting thick ice in the water troughs is a challenge. Jan. and Feb. are our two rough months.
