The baffle and cap are a joke, and return is too high. To keep the return flow from mixing air into the fluid you have to have it submerged. Once you manage to get it bled, the cap will puke some fluid the level will drop, start mixing air from the return then puke some more making a mess and aerating the fluid. Creating a mess and poor steering assist.

It's easy to pull the top off the stock reservoir, cut the bottom off and extend it down. Clean the internal stock baffle/filter and crimp the top.

Okay after some thought, i returned that reservoir and ordered the psc sr146..

Quick question about drilling and tapping steering box. Exact locations obviously.. What size fitting to install in box 1/4”x6an or 3/8”x6an??

@Broski you got a 105 sector shaft, did you get a new adjustment screw and nut? I was looking at @Box Rocket 105 sector thread and he replaced his. Anyone have part numbers for those 2 parts?

I did the 105 sector shaft in mine last yr.
Part numbers should be
45357-60030.. screw-sector shaft adjusting
44142-60020- Nut Lock
90210-10001- washer seal
Double check just to make sure.

Okay i ordered 2 of each of those part numbers..

My lares steering box came in today, heres some pictures, its seems kinda suspect to me. What do you all think, keep and build, or return?

Ordered one last week and got it in today with the remote antisplash kit. Sucker is beefy! Bit bigger than I expected. Does have a nice internal filer but seems like it will take up some space for fluid meaning less capacity.... Looks like a huge step up from factory tho.

I guess i could put this in my truck and use my original box as a builder.. thats more work than its worth probably, otherwise no cores available to me..

Check the parting out section.
I bought a box with a twisted sector for cheap n put my 105 in it.
Some guys break em clean n toss em, you could post a wanted add for one that has a broken shaft.
Just a thought.

Did you check with @slow95z he should have one. and he's close to you.

I havent checked with @slow95z, now that weve both tagged @slow95z he’ll chime in and offer to sell me an 80 steering box for ultra cheap.. ;)
You would think that but the days of ultra cheap from me are gone. Not sure if I even have one left. Can check in a few days when I get home

I'm running this one form Appleton rack and pinion. It utilizes the same filter that the 1FZ uses and I like the cooling fins

A second return port for when you go hydro boost brakes to stop those big meets.

Ive edited the title of the thread to include hydro assist. This thread is sorta geared towards all things “crawler” steering and being an index of information, hydro definitely falls into that.

That said, i see people drilling the steering box in many different places to tap in for hydraulic lines. I understand we need the power steering pump pressure to push the ram back and forth. Im going to post a handful of example photos(mostly found on mud and ig) so we can discuss reasons for placement, but also which part of the box goes to which side of the ram, and the rams positioning in general.
