Ha ha I actually have the tools, but when I priced the gear set and then got a price from American gear Local to me the difference in price was small enough for me to not want to mess with with it. 🤷‍♂️ I also feel more confident on the trail...

And some specialty tools. Some things are better left to a Professional, especially when there getting a price break on the parts. JMHO ;)

Get with @arcteryx and @slow95z for used parts. They can both ship and do salvage on these trucks.

A few 93 & 94 80s were sold in the US market with no ABS, rear drum brakes, rear semi-floating axle, and factory CDL switches. I was corrected by @cruiserdan himself on this subject...

Last I checked, the heater core for my '97 is NLA. I bought one of the last remaining units a couple of years ago iirc. It's collecting dust somewhere in my storage unit including the one of two pipes that wasn't NLA at the time of purchase. I...

Another possibility is to buy a used 93 core from someone like @slow95z or @arcteryx Then have it pressure tested and refurbished. Refurbished will be about $300 plus the cost of the core. This way you can still drive until it's time to tear...

I do have used ones but I sell them as is. No warranty on them. The best solution, but most expensive, is to upgrade to the newer core and box but that's over 600 bucks last I checked.

Everything mid-90‘s works if it looks similar. I told about a guy in Squamish w/ a Camry wheel who never heard of Mud, and I have still an old black Lexus ‘96-97 sedan wheel that was exactly our LC wheel. They are Legos. - If it looks close, it...

slow95z reacted to jonheld's post in the thread Newer style seat gears? (1 piece plastic vs brass) with Like Like.
The underlying reason for seat gear failure is the 25+ year old grease that Toyota used in the seat gearboxes has now turned to glue. This forces the drive rod against the little plastic plug until it fails, or simply strips out the plastic...

Yes... that's my point... you can get the same engine, with the same engineering and design, for much less... I'm not trying to crap on your choice of going with a new unit. I think if you have the funds to do so, it's a great option. I just...

Yes, waiting over 100k to swap out plugs would be the main cause of the buildup of byproduct deposits. I would guess that most of that is byproduct of crappy gas and ethanol fuel combined with the head gasket that after 400k needs to be replaced...
