Let us know when you find out Lou. Marshall, great find. Rick wasn't surprised to hear from me. :) Also let me know about those brackets...I would be interested in a pair if you fab some up.

Fog Lights

Just got off the phone with my local dealer, he said one order in transit, and two on back order, it's a crap shoot but he said he would try you just never know! I did not place the order.

Lou

Well it's been a while. Seeing lot's of restorations going on has got me back in the mood to work on the pig. Sad part about it is almost done but yet I keep putting it off.

Left to do.

Rebuild smog pump
install new exhaust
Paint the thing.
Put new seatcover on front seat.

Thats it.

I'm going to drive it out of the garage tomorrow and start stripping it out to be painted.

I posted a while back about trying an idea to fix the front glove box pad, lower controls pad and gauge pad. Well I tried the idea on my glove box. Worked like a charm. Most of these pads are distorted but not in terrible bad shape. The problem is the foam on the back sides breaks down over time and causes the outerpad to start warping which if left to long will cause splits.

What I did was cut out all the foam that was damaged out with an exacto knife. Then braced the entire section back flat including the sides then poured in gorilla glue. Let it set and then sanded away the excess. Will post pics tomorrow. Took about 30 min. With about 4 hrs set time.

Gorilla glue

Great idea Marshall, glad to hear your willing try new things like venturing further afield than the old standbyes, duct tape, bailing wire and all. They way that stuff reacts, seems it would be the same consistency as the foam when all is said and done.

The process.

I sanded down the excess that has bubbled out. Also bainted the back black.

Funny ha ha

I just knew that was a snap on you were refering to as a ghetto fixturing Marshall. too funny, Sorta like our cruisers, peoples look at um thinking we are going to take their stuff not knowing what they really are and the crazy money we spend on our second love. Purty on the inside.

That stock radio:

I'm going to hate the answer to this: Are they at all desireable or collectable?

My '71 came with the radio, and speaker mounted down under the blower duct in the corner. Thinking they were just cheesy '70's trash, I threw them both away!

Now that mine is coming together, I WISH I had it just to fill the hole in the dash. What an idiot. Why didn't I just stick it on a shelf with all the other 'cruiser crap?

More pics please.... of something. Too much jibber jabber. Pics, pics, pics!!!!

Yeah I hear ya.

I've been trying to do 2 projects at once. Work on the 55 and put the big gay 2f back together.

This has been my project for the past 3 days.

Bearings are shot and a few pieces have flown into the flat blades of deaths. Never to be found again.

Doing a write up in the 40 Tech section on my rebuild.

This is where I am right now.

What's a smog pump? ;)

What's a smog pump? ;)

A truly diabolically cruel torture device, foisted on the 2f Landcruiser motor by desperate engineers, their wankers in their hands, lacking the tools (confusers, computers) to maintain demanding emmisions controls. Irony is, now they are treasured, increasing the value of vehicles from the period.

Next question: What the hell is a bailey channel? Trollhole, how do those weatherstrip pieces from Rare Spares fit? And on the rear tailgate, did you get the window channel that the window rolls up into on the main body?

Good questions.

Bailey channel is the window channel. I wouldn't waste my time buying from half way around the world when JC Whitney is in our back yard. The stuff is the same.

Have yet to get the piece that rolls up into the main body but it's been posted in the main weatherstripping thread.

I have just about every part I need to put this thing back original and look really good. What I don't have is the time to strip it down and paint it.

But I'm getting closer. The Big gay 2f is almost done.
