Hey guys,

I currently have what I believe to be a 4" lift kit from a previous owner. I have no idea what it is but it is more than a 2.5".

I am having some problems with shackle angle. Here is what I have at the moment.
The front gets slightly better once the hood/fenders are added. I am planning on going with a soft top, so the rear will not really receive any more weight.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need to get new springs? Can I remove a leaf and see if that will fix things?

I don't think you can check shackle angle until you have all the weight on it. And I would put a couple miles on it to make sure everything settles in. After that, if you choose to remove a spring that would be the time to make that decision. Hope that helps.

The soft top/ bows/bench seats will maybe add 100 ish lbs. With 200lbs on the back end (me sitting on it) The rear shackle angle doesn't change much.

I have no idea who's lift springs they are and no way to contact the previous owner.

Do you think taking a leaf out will fix either the front or rear?

you have skyjacker springs

you will need a longer rear shackles .... skyjackers arch has always been tight like that... you will get alot more weight on the back besides 100 lbs... spare tire carrier.... spare.... needless junk... people... and its the overall weight as well... they will settle a bit as well

make sure shackles are not tight either

I have had my skyjackers for over 20 years with maybe 200,000 miles on them... its a VERY nice soft ride now

I agree with JohnnyC. I have 6" lift Skyjackers. You can see the angle change quite a lot. under various load conditions.
Very little weight
Even less weight
Mild compression on trailer

I have seen folks (me included) do an opposite wheel lift to get springs to break in quicker.
Basically its two wheel / car ramps that you place in front of one front wheel, and the opposite side rear wheel then drive up on them. Doing this overnight, and alternating everyday will help break those springs in...

Same as above, with an additional add-a-leaf.

Current setup, extended rear shackles, 4" Skyjacker, Add-a-leaf still there.

Exactly!!

I have 4 " skyjacker on my 40 since 2003, at first it was on stock shackles, after 6 months of driving i build new one from 2"x3/8 flat bar, 4" centre to center, trouble with stock 2.75" shackles is they are too short and hit the hanger on the frame before the spring get flat when flexing , also the risk to invert .
Those springs keep their arch for very long time , i flex them alots for the past 17 years and still have the rear end a little high .
With a load of fire wood it get better

Here is my skyjackers 4” rear with conferr extended shackles in rear and SR front a lil over stock shackles and 2.5 springs in Front

That was 4 years ago and well over the 200,000 miles on them at that point

I had since replaced the shackles on all 4 corners ... they were ... dead lol

I put in a lil bit taller shackles all round

You can see the shackle angle at 200k ... not bad :) and these are very soft springs
