I'd be willing to do a couple of hundred miles. Orange, Tx into Lousiana and back over to Houston area maybe if someone there wants to participate

Count me in (will need a month or two of advanced notice so that I can get my 40 in order).

I'm in Louisville, KY. I would likely have to limit it to 100-200 miles.

I could meet up with the Colorado gang...I'll be testing the goat out in a couple weeks for a longer trip...so hopefully it goes well. If I know ahead of time, I might be able to take a few days off an go a couple days.

It looks like there's a leg going from CA to NV then maybe southern CO (Great Sand Dunes/Medano Pass), then on to TX. If I can make it I'd definitely like to meet up with others in southern CO - from the San Luis Valley over Medano Pass then north up the east side of the Sangres, with maybe a side trip into the Wet Mountains (I've never been there before). Not sure how far north I could make it, but up CO 9 through South Park, then over Boreas Pass to I-70 would be nice as part of a north-south leg.

I'm in Reno and go to Iowa every summer, have to visit the inlaws.. This could actually make this a enjoyable journey.. lol...

I'm good for 500miles in any direction.. (can I take the fj80 ???? its more comfortable long distance)

just a thought we have clubs all over, we could Pick a major interstate 80 or 40/66 or 90 and get clubs along the way to sponsor a stop and camping spot.. The clubs north and south could do a trip to meet us/join us. The thought of 20+ fj40's going down I80 is entertaining.. We could zig-zag across the country.

Example, socal guys come north to Sac for the night, seatle guys come southback side of lassen for the night . Day 2 go over I80 stop in Reno spend a day arround tahoe, spend the night, day 2-3 long haul to salt lake take 2 days drive highway 50 (land cruiser museum...), day 4 thru the gorge to denver (make sure you have a good cooling system eisenhower tunnel 11k ft.. ...stop vail/denver spend the night... go north or south from there cheyenne or flagstaff..(please consider time of year, we dont want to be in the midwest in Augest in a FJ40 the dry heat is better)...

Ohh and get a cruiser vendor to go/sponsor with parts just in case.......

I'd hate to exclude anyone that wants to participate in this opportunity to be part of an epic nationwide excursion. Do we need to set a time line that would allow interested parties to finish dependability issues with their 40's?

I agree we don't want to exclude anyone... we'll see how quickly the Legs are outlined and what restrictions on timing those folks may have...

I have to take my wife to... well anywhere she wants to go so anywhere you need the baton passed I am willing to try for.

Hi @Walkerm916 Would just need location and potential distance to travel...

Moving quickly!!! Several options developing...

  • West Coast Leg - need OR and WA
  • East Coast Leg - need NC, WV, VA
  • Trans-continental Leg - need UT, AZ, Western CO, AR, MO, TN
Maybe we can even combine them all??? We can dream!

I think I have everyone... let me know if I don't, or if I have location / distance incorrect...

This is starting to look awesomely good!

Just as an FYI... I may not be able to update this until Friday... but type away!

Love this idea and I'd be glad to participate. I'm in salmon Idaho right on the Lewis and Clark pass. Id be glad to put a few hundred miles in. Just got my bj-45 up from tx and she runs great. Just need a few weeks notice to depart in any direction for say 250-300 miles one way.

I could be in :Big Pine Ca. Eastern Sierra of Cal.

Good for 500+ miles up/down the Sierras, into Nv. and/or Az.

John

I am in Fort Irwin thirty miles north of Barstow, CA depending on what direction and when my leg comes up I would like to go around 250 miles each way.

I am in!I can do 150 miles west or east of Kilgore,Longview,TX or same miles around Wilmington,NC or Myrtle beach,SC(by the coast) It all depends where my 40 will be at that time...I am moving it once a while....Great idea....I am on the roadtrip for 7 weeks now and wanted to meet you, hecrod, but timing was against it...I was just too late.I am in Idaho at this moment and was over month in Oregon and can tell you-Oregon is fantastic place to explore and beautiful,too....

This is a big location for the more inland west coast route - now we need someone from Tahoe to Big Pine. Or maybe I go through Yosemite... The thought of the cruiser on Sonora pass or Tioga pass is frightening...

Ft. Irwin :) - a long time ago on a club trip with Southern Nevada Land Cruisers, a couple of members, Tom and Sharon, decided to lead a Death Valley Run, including a couple of nights camping. The first night's camp was a little northwest of Baker, CA. Instead of heading up CA 127 the plan was to approach Death Valley directly from the south on dirt roads shown on some old topo maps. As the modest caravan of FJ40s and FJ60s headed west we crested a low hill and found out the road was suddenly a paved road - no fence/gate, no signs, nothing. So we all decided to see where it led. After a few miles we took a right turn on what we thought could be our route into Death Valley. It turns out it didn't lead anywhere at all, so we returned to the pavement and continued west. In a few miles we spotted some vehicles on a side road to the left, so Tom and Sharon headed down in their FJ40 to check it out. After a few minutes of discussion they headed back to join us, and got on the CB. The message was basically "we need to get the hell out of here RIGHT NOW!" Well, you guessed it - we were on Ft. Irwin. The guy in charge had told Tom and Sharon we could continue on, and let them know the correct road to take north, but we had to hurry because live fire practice would start soon. After a few miles we noticed a line of M1 tanks to the right of the road, with the turrets aimed over the road, so we sped up to get by quickly. In a few more miles we met up with a couple of MPs on the side of the road standing by a small trailer. They didn't know about the road we were looking for and said "if anybody asks we didn't see anyone." So we kept going over the next rise. Shortly after we cleared the rise we noticed a couple of A6s flying in low from the west. That's when we scattered and all headed in different directions. Soon afterwards we noticed a green vehicle with a flashing red light coming over the rise we had just cleared. Tom and Sharon drove over to meet it. It turns out it was the same guy they had first talked to. Tom got on the CB and told everyone that the guy said we needed to leave, and that he had gotten detailed directions to the correct road, which we had passed. Not too long after we had turned north we crossed over a cattle guard, leaving Ft. Irwin for good. For a long time after that trip I couldn't help thinking "It's not a Run, it's an Adventure."

Definately interested in this, my rig might be ready in late Fall................ I really like Mark's proposed route thru the Sierras; not sure of mileage I could do as per time off.

How about a Southwest leg???

Depending on timing, I would love to be a part of this. Just put a couple hundred miles on my 40 w/MB Diesel 2 weekends ago (was longest trip since swap) and have complete faith in her now. Hailing from Wilmington Delaware

Hope you're doing well! Depending on when this show gets on the road I'll convoy with you in the '75. Glad to hear your diesel swap went well. My garage renovation is finally nearing completion, about 3 months behind schedule . That means the engine can finally get pulled in my truck and the repairs can begin. It was running great but recently decided to drop the driver's side exhaust at the header...

Once the engine comes out, I'll have a better idea as to when it will go back in (or what will replace it).

@hecrod - in reality, as I mentioned, I'm probably out for round 1 of this adventure as I foresee a solid 6 months before my truck is roadworthy again. But for future reference, I'm in the North East, MD area and wouldn't mind running a hundred or two miles for the cause, once the truck's capable of surviving it.
