The frame you built around the backside bump out is just to reinforce it?

Nice job, clean install.

Yeah, I started out thinking a metal strap to mount the piano hinge to, but then just got carried away. I had thoughts of recessing magnets that might hold it shut on the beveled top, but as I kept building out the frame I figured all bits might as well Mount into a steel structure rather than anything just going into plastic.

I definitely overcomplicated a simple thing (modders motto) but I'm pleased with the results.... Although I did run into the same issue that @cosport ran into with his table back in 2019. I shoulda mathed a Little more. 🤣
My support mounts ended up interfering, I lightly planned that they wouldn't, but it was also 130am when I was finishing this up.

Then with more wire brushing and brake cleaner to prep the surface I set the Eastwood for 18Ga as a starting point and zapped a couple tacks to test settings

brushed the tack to see what I had, adjusted a little more heat and wire feed, a few more tacks then connected the dots.

So I zapped it up tack by tack, opposites and resting to not heat to too much.

(psst, some tater vision so as not to disappoint ;)
same round of views. Top down, side looking inboard from wheel well, down below and sort of below looking up and out.

It's certainly not as rad as buddy's TIG would've been but I think this'll be temporary enough (especially with the new exhaust hanger isolator) to see me through header delivery. Temporary-permanent enough at least.... I'll keep an eye, or rather an ear on it. Its really hard [for me] to get a good look all the way around (I don't have mirrors), I suppose I could've done a better job of 50% or so overlapping tacks and I think there are a couple tiny seams of crack not covered (particularly inboard along the weld from the cylinder port to the manifold collector tube), but I think this should be okay for a while...

Went on the hour drive to the mountains for sledding today. aaaah quiet again!!!!
So... the 3K mile summer road trip (and > $1K in gas o_O:hillbilly:) surely helped foster the failure so here we go again. 🥸😐

initial light tacks welds lasted like six months... 🥳

But Crack/leak has returned.

so... 3.5 hour project begun @ 09PM left some coverage, but the weak spot is still the top.
Reaching up in left poor beads, but, the bigger the glob, the better the job! :flipoff2:

Here's hoping I can get the DTs on within 3-6 months. . . . 🤞

Ugh, and now the radiator leak. . .

Thanks Dranged, you are making me feel better about my 60. 😁. Just ribbing you. They all get leaks. Last couple weeks I had a intermittent high pressure fuel leak on to the exhaust header. It only leaked if I was in a hurry but perfectly fine when ever I'd check. The oil pan seal isn't a big deal and adds rust protection.

I thought I was looking at modern art!

I like this design! When I was doing mine I did a lot of searching around & I don't think I saw anything like this!
I still like my wider table (near full door width), but this tucks in nicely if a smaller table works for you!!!

I got direct props and overheard props with the PB&Js.
🤘

Refining the latch.... the ground washer doesn't provide enough support and the latch is a bit soft.
I pulled the cover off again and welded some scrapbits and tacked a nyloc nut onto that, and round off the top corners too...

rookie mistake and melted the plastic a little.... even tacks are a ton of heat :p

Not that there's ANY moisture where I live, but I coated it all with some paint because, whynot? ;)

Just a suggestion, check your engine mount. the one with rubber.

I got cracked on my cat both side near manifold. welded twice, replace brand new both side and the passenger crack again (new).

Then I replace the two engine rubber mount. It works for past 4 months now.

Uncharacteristically, I'm scoping before just diving in. :)
As such, I'll need a couple more bits. The GX sockets don't fit in the the Prado tails and these were new aftermarket Prado tails don't have the bulb inserts.... I know the locations have different functions (given layout and as evidenced by the different contact patterns on the housing) so I need the sockets and the master harness for the body-side harness mate
Moar researches provideth socket beta below.

These are just sockets as the wiring per socket is on the taillight, not contacts on the socket. Some aftermarket wire harnesses wire each socket.

Re: moar researches…

That’s part of the fun figuring things out! Although, sometimes it takes way too much “moar researches…”

Im like binge researching and my GF just says take it to the mechanic!

be aware that wiring also different. your signal and brake light wire have to be swapped. At least in my case it was that way. (OEM prado from Japan)

It was a rad day!

Circa 230K miles, my radiator cracked the sad.

After some Mud consult, consensus deemed Denso 221-3125 the OE replacement. Sure it's plastic side tanks and such but for the effectively $200ish replacement (formerly more like $150ish) that's the route I went. To be expected, there are some mixed opinions/experiences for sure and the all aluminum aftermarket certainly takes the cake for longevity, durability and no plastic, but entering @ $350+ (likely higher now with inflationary procing and post-COVID supply chain conundrums) I'm not the audience for rad of a rad, given my needs/purposes with this vehicle.

While in for the radiator, I noticed a lil grime buildup in the TB intake...
ugh, dirty-filthy, dusty desert air! GAH, you'd think there were a K&N in there (but not in this car... I've past that experience)

Got the TB cleaner and squirted it, Q-tipped and rag-wiped the flapper and port a bit>... Not perfect but definitely better (no after pix)!

Did you bake them open and spray them? It looks like the outer plastic is red. Do they come apart like headlights? Are those grey/silver ones a special Euro option...unobtanium?
