It's great to hear it didn't fill in the first 5 minutes like prior years.
As a 5-timer (and then some) I really appreciated the LCDC jackets and cheese plate too
I finally broke down and got licensed a couple weeks ago in preparation of this year. Used HamStudy.org and started going through questions on a Saturday. By Sunday evening I was competent enough to take the test. By Monday I was easily taking...
I second the Chinese handhelds especially if you’re not going to get licensed. BUT, you have plenty of time to get licensed and install a real radio in your rig permanently. I have the Chinese ones mentioned as well as this Icom hard-mounted...
Grab a Baofeng UV-5R and if you want... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KZ6VGUW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
For "listening" of course.
Same. Torn between camping like I should be doing or splurging for the comfort of a hotel in town. Probably depends on whether the teenage daughter wants to go or not. No way I'm spending a week straight with that level of moodiness in a tent...
Early registration wrapped up this weekend. I'm hoping to get an email out today to announce general registration to be on track for opening it this Saturday morning.
I'll be there and happy to lead as usual.
I just passed on my first allocation (holding out for Nori) but if the stars align I'll be in a GX550 on the trail.
Clear Lake trail has been closed the last couple times I’ve been to Ouray, and while it’s neither technical nor difficult… MAN is it ever a sight to behold the area you travel on the way. -Gorgeous and different, all the way from the lush valley...
In as well, likely with the wife and the boys. Will be leading at least one trail, probably more. Definitely planning to lead some of the gulches and basins this time… I did the alpine loop with @TheGrrrrr and @mcgaskins last summer and we took...
We just wrapped up working with the USFS/BLM last week which was the last major hurdle to opening registration. We're nailing down a few details and then will share more very soon via the email list.
The event will be significantly larger than...
I would whole heartedly agree with your statement knuckleheads and all. Seems like even the good ones are staying away from the tourist areas these days so they do not accidentally get lumped into the same group.
I’ll be honest. I love Ouray, but the sxs traffic, and specifically the rentals driven by folks that have no sense and no business out there really detracts from the experience to the point that it’s just not the same anymore.
You are correct...
Well that's awesome. Kudos for that extra work.
And well yeah, the SxS are an ever growing concern. Occasionally there are some good seeds driving them though.
I for one have definitely thought about it:steer:
Just a little insight on this…. I’ve been working with the organizers of RMTR to coordinate our trail activities and to make sure our interactions will be smooth and very limited.
COTR will be...
Cruisers On The Rockies will also be fighting for space with Rocky Mountain Toyota Round Up 23rd through the 26th. Round Up has essentially replaced FJ Summit and is pretty darn large. Me personally, I am glad LCDC is the week after.
Really hope I get a spot this year. After eleven years of trying the natural way, my old a$$ (45) is having a baby in October. Don’t think extended road trips will be in my future for a few years.
