Just to add to this, my exhaust is pretty solid with no support by the downpipe. I got a 90ish welded in front of the first cat and it is connected with the supplied vband to the downpipe. my muffler guy did add a support down by the muffler on the driver side in case the bellow/flex joint would have caused it to move around a bit more but currently its not going anywhere!

Also Johnny thanks again for taking a look this morning, should have new cats on by the end of the week so I can start ripping around...stupid CARB state....grumble, grumble grumble!

oh and obligatory turbo pic:

Thanks for coming by @DHwreckage and stoked you were able to finally get this going!

For all those wondering what cats has to do with this, DHwreckage stopped by for a sanity check after getting this all on the truck.... He was developing no boost even though it is all plumbed correctly. Came by, went for a ride, listened to it and was like hmmm weird, definitely no extra power... So we unhooked the downpipe from the exhaust, unplugged the front O2, wedged the vband in between so we had a massive air gap and then took it for a rip.

No restriction, more power haha Found the lost power and built 7 lbs no problem.

Moral of the story clogged cats or clogged muffler some how. By unhooking the O2 we send the computer into open loop and makes it safe to drive without the rest of the exhaust hooked up. So if anyone else gets to this stage and has problems with building pressure go ahead and give this a go!

How come there aren’t many videos coming from turbo owners ? I haven’t found much ..
We're having too much fun to remember to video it...I'll see if I can remember when the roads are clear!

Honestly I have tried doing a cell phone vid from in the cab more than a dozen times and you just can't capture the feel... the needles move faster across rpm and speedo but you can't capture the seat pushing into your back in and the physical acceleration...

I can tell you that it's a very weird feeling in an 80 to have the seat pushed into you for once haha

When Rey gets his back we will film a drag race between his 1FZ turbo/auto and my 1HDFT/H151. That is going to be a fun race!!!

What are the chances at making a run at the CARB testing facility/process for us CA folks? I was reading about a new state of the art facility in Riverside that supposedly had streamlined some things.

Sema Garage. It's a long process but we've reached out get the process started.

Awesome. if you need a test mule, I am here for it (not trying to get free hardware, but she's not my daily)

So I know somewhere in this thread we went over the wrap that is included in the kit and to say the least it is legit... Proved that again today on the test mule. I discovered while grabbing a photo for a guy doing a turbo install this weekend that the clip that holds the main engine harness trunk to the firewall had failed on my cruiser and the main harness had been laying on the downpipe for only god knows how long..... The harness is a little crispy and had clearly gotten hot but it isn't melted at and it is clear that it had been laying there for awhile as it had started leaving a divot in the heatshield armor. This is a PSA to check that clip before something bad potentially happens!

For anyone that want's more wrap than what's included in the kit, here's the link

Damn clip it's probably still available new if it is you should add to the kit or offer the oem part number that style of heat shielding is nice too.

I think something better than plastic is going to be the ticket

Guess I'll quit wondering about the AC lines being so close to the down pipe....
Zero problems to date with those lines and AC blows as cold as it did before!

See you had a zip tie before looks like it was cut to move the harness away from the o2 sensor. All about the details

Wits End turbo owner here.
I wrapped my harness with heat wrap insulation to prevent this.
Also have the down pipe blanket.

But laying on the down pipe directly will probably be too much heat long term anyways.

I also, over time, had the a/c line fail, even with insulation wrap.
I ended up with a custom line re-made with higher temp properties, wrapped in a foil type wrap, & further wrapped in a Velcro heat sleeve.

I haven’t had an issue with the new a/c hose & double heat wrapping so far.

Others have made the same observation but still found damage when the harness was opened up. May not be a problem today but you could have an issue later with bare wires because that heat will make the insulation brittle and fail.

Oh I know, we replace a few harnesses every month at C&C. My harness has 378K miles on it... its on borrowed time regardless lol

When Johnny is done with mine I have a drag race lined up with @notyourmomslx450 in his LS 5.3 swapped 80.
