I didn't think of it till now, but I've read that the input thrust bearings can die during low speed use in these transmissions due to lack of lubing. Apparently a fix is to overfull by a quart.

I put an extra quart in through the shift tower with my new trans last year.
I haven’t heard of this before, interesting. I just chalked it up to bad luck, plus these bearings are super cheap, the only option out there is like $8.

Use, break, learn, fix. Life.

What is your DD?

Mostly my 5-speed 530i I picked up back in October. Into the whole car for about $3k including wheels/tires, amp, Carplay head unit. Bought it with intention of boosted LS swap but will more likely end up doing that to a nicer example instead.

The welded diff I did made that car so much better, lol.

Wheels look tight.

Give it a shot, see if the trans lasts longer this time around.

I’ve heard the same thing. I don’t drive my 40 enough to know if it is going to make a difference though

1200 mile trip this weekend for ONSC Carolina Relic Run.. no issues at all other then two injectors becoming unplugged for some reason, and the turbo is still dumping oil. Nothing that actually required any wrenching on the trip.
I actually didn’t drive the truck at all on this trip, other than about 2-3 minutes on one trail to show off a little. I was in my 75 FJ40, and on the way home it was cold and wet and I was envious of Dale in the 62.

Super weird seeing this truck running around from the outside. So this is what everyone else sees

Front ARB going in. So glad to finally be done with lunch-box lockers after, what 10 years?
I haven’t had the front unlocked since 2015 I think? Going to be so weird, I’m so used to the front end always being so dig-y.

Been thinking about putting a front one in my 60 before GSMTR also

The real move would be to decide to just wait and install it on the trail.

I should have done this years ago instead of rebuilding four 3FE’s.. although if my 16 year old self had done this swap I’d probably be redo-ing everything right about now.

It’s funny reading this 6 years later.. now I want to re-do it all again

GSTMR 2024 came and went in June.. it was a good trip but I didn’t really wheel much, I was going thru some stuff with my personal life and work has been pretty stressful so I wasn’t super excited to tear it up on the trail so I mostly just chilled at the trailer. I actually won the Iron butt award for the event but wasn’t at the raffle to get it so they gave it to some other guy.

maybe someone got some pics but this is pretty much all I have of the trail.. where we decided to turn around on a double black. Right after this a dude did a brakestand and drove his SXS right off this cliff in reverse which was wild

I think I took three pictures the entire weekend. I know Darren and I went out briefly to test his new build ? @White Sheep

The trip was mostly uneventful other than my NV4500 eating itself to death AGAIN 150 miles from home on the way back. I did make it back on my own power and the truck has been parked since then.
TR4050 time. Enough of this NV4500 nonsense

Going to keep running my 203/splitcase for another few years. Not only does it bolt to the TR4050, the tr4050 is the same length as my NV4500 (dodge gas) so the whole thing is kind of bolt in. Will have to mod crossmember as it uses a different mount but that should be it

Cool. Forgot you had the 203 doubler, that makes more sense now.

I’ve really wanted to go 8hp70 straight to either a vacuum splitcase with a 3:1 low, or a HF2A (80 case) with 3:1 low and part time kit, for a long time now but I just don’t have the interest/budget in that much project right now.
I’m hoping to do the TR4050 swap in a few days including changing up a few things with my shifters and tunnel

Needed an escape so I hoped in the 62 and drove to Key West on a complete whim
