Just glad you're ok @cruisermatt . Holy crap that looked scary!

I am extremely thankful that no one was seriously injured or killed, as there were even odds of either of those happening, IMHO. There is no doubt Matt did an excellent job keeping the truck upright and maneuvering it to the side of the trail, once the chit hit the fan. However, as with many accidents of this type, where it is rarely a single freak event that causes the accident, there were several events leading up to this that likely contributed to the crash. There are always lessons to be learned when things like this happen.

My take on is in the description of the video on youtube here:

Had a great time. Nice seeing all the cruisers and meeting all of the owners. Unfortunately, only took a few pictures

I was in the blue 40 going back up the hill and watched from my drivers seat. After re-watching it, Matt did a good job in recovering and heading towards the trees. It looked faster in person and I was afraid he was going to barrel roll into me! I yeld out to him as he hit the tree to stay in it. I could see he was "ok" and did not hit his head on the wheel or windshield. Tree branches were falling on the vehicle and I did not want him to get hit by one. That is very important to remember. This is also another reason to always put your seat belt on when in the vehicles. I saw too many people not wearing them all weekend. Most were in others vehicles. Had one guy with a 6-8 year old in the front seat of a jeep with no doors not wearing one. Father said he puts it on when they do hard stuff but they had just come down Daniel were that video was taken.

Ok I am off my soap box now.

It was only 10 seconds from when he started down the trail to when he hit the tree... that lip between the trail and the go around slowed him down quite a bit. Right before it sped him back up.

thank you for videoing and I believe your description is pretty accurate Stump. Hopefully it provides a good lesson to others. Multiple serious lessons that can be learned from this one. I think the biggest one might be a new appreciation for how quickly things can go from being fine to completely out of control. It was less then a second. Nothing.

A side note, my brake boost went out completely about half way home on Sunday. Maybe it’s possible it was just starting to have issues on the trail? Maybe I killed it on the trail? Not sure. Either way a new booster is on the way. Theres a few big dirt hills here and I am going to try and simulate the situation a bit and see how it does.

I’ve already started getting it torn down for repairs 😎

It was dumb luck that I caught that on video.
I'm glad you made it home safe.
Like I said, you did a great job managing the situation when things fell apart in the blink of an eye.
And you realized that we should have fully bled the system after that hose repair.
I knew next to nothing about hydroboost until I read all about it today, as a result of what happened Saturday. I had no idea there were two critical systems that relied on one source for their function and if one failed, it would cause the other to not function as well.
I know there a lots of these systems on trucks out on the trail and they run with no issues, but after having read some stories of guys that had similar issues to yours, I'm in the camp of "you gotta keep 'em separated". But that is personal preference, of course.
Regardless, we are all a bit smarter today than we were Saturday and also have a renewed appreciation for how a couple small oversights, while not significant in and of themselves, can have catastrophic consequences. Throughout my 24 years in the military that concept was drilled into our heads.
Wheeling is a dangerous activity that demands attention to detail. I have no doubt you will have it back up and better than before.

My camera wasn't very busy at CRR2021 but here's my contribution to the pics.

Who needs the Outpost when you have a double egg, double ham, double cheese, guacamole sandwich? Apologies go out to the Charlotte contingent for sleeping through Saturday morning. Waking up at noon was an unexpected, unwelcome surprise. The first round is on me at the next CLT meeting (...that I attend).

Late Friday night, @Stumpalama said something about how small tires would be fun on the trail. I followed that with something about how big balloon tires with low pressure would be comfortable on the service roads. This pic shows our respective perspectives.

@joyRidaz Look familiar??? The crazy thing is that a foot to the drivers side is a 10' drop right where my rear axle is (I noticed that on the way back down). 100% driver error. I was repositioning for the bypass after my rear bumper prevented me from climbing the rock garden on the back of Daniel and I had a "shifting malfunction". Thanks to @landwagon for the evidence pic.

EDIT: This just might be where my PS front marker light wires got ripped out! Helluva stuff there.

I guess I got lucky here because this is the only door with a functional handle! I don't think I'm up for a mandatory Dukes of Hazard-style entry/egress.

@JohnVee - good memory, that definitely looks like a familiar spot where I got stuck a few years ago and needed a very strong recovery pull from the crockpot with @roadstr6 behind the wheel.

Glad you’re safe, bummer about the new racing stripe and blemish.

I am trying so hard not to read backwards after having to miss the epic event due to a conflicting family vaca. Bad case of FOMO here, must have been a blast!

I am sad to have missed this , was in CT with family. I sent Dave and Sam to give hugs and kisses to everyone, did they deliver? Lol

We finally made it home last night. After 1097 miles I can tell that this is the best trip I had in long time. None of this will be possible without @FJ40Jim and the incredible job he did on this truck. The event was incredible. I was talking to wife about how nice everybody was and how safe we felt the whole time. My kids where running around, my campsite was unattended and I didn’t even worry about it. I felt like being on a family trip. I have always wanted to come and I am glad we finally made. It is a long drive but I am already looking forward to do it again. New seats, throttle cable, better shocks softer tires are on the list to make it more manageable. We left the event Sunday and drive 2 hours south to a friends hose to recharge, then head to Charleston to meet @leidgam visit his shop and drive north. We camped in Virginia and made the final pull yesterday afternoon. Will clean the truck over the weekend and run a full inspection to make sure everything is good.
