For a quick fix, I'd probably just dress those flanges as best you can. Maybe use power tools. Secretly, I've used a belt sander in a similar situation.

I was about to post this pic from my 60 (Turdle), but Spike beat me to it. 100 percent agree. Loosen the belts and check for wobble at the outer pulley. I did a DIY fix on this one and it has held up just fine for several years.

Check the rivets that hold the HB together. As the HB ages and the rubber center deteriorates, those rivets loosen and the HB begins to wobble or oscillate. If you see obvious marks around the rivets where things have shifted, or even some...

Old thread but I thought I'd add another datapoint here. I also had this problem, and assumed it was something going on in the drive train, but it was my hood - a combination of hinge bushings and worn out rubber pads.

If you think you can handle a swap then LS or 2UZ is definetiely the way to go in a 3FE 80. There isn't "a lot of wiring" for either swap. You can have either swap running and driving with about four wire connections if you buy a pre-fabricated...
