Brighter Headlights for FJ60???

@ColoradoLC I have the City Racer ones, they are definitely better than the Hella H4 retrofits that I had previously and with the included polarity modules they're super easy to install and get running. Cons: they're reflectors, so the cutoff isn't super sharp and they don't feel like they have as much projection distance vs a projector HID setup.

A few years back I got the LED kit from @ToyotaMatt with H4 Koito lenses and the new harness. I had some issues with aligning the bulbs in the headlights and never found a happy spot.
Last spring I installed the Morimoto 2-Stroke in the Koito's and could not be happier. The low beams have good spread and a clear cut off that reduces glare from traffic signs and I feel safe enough at 80 mph. The brights are as good or even better than any new vehicle I've ridden in at night. A cheap set of 4" pods I set up as "Ditch lights" make after dark trail running much more enjoyable too.

Not saying I don't believe you, but could you post a photo some time? I haven't yet seen LED bulbs in halogen houses that maintain a good cutoff and spread. If you unlocked the secret, I want me some of that too!

Curious about your results and pics of the Morimoto Stroke Led bulbs in the H4 housing.

They have a newer Stroke 4.0 that is 5500 kelvin. Interestingly the Holley Retrobrite headlights use Morimoto 5700 kelvin bulbs.

Wondering if the Holley housings are worth it vs putting the Strokes in my Koito H4 housings

I'm planning on buying these when I have some spare change lying around. Still have the Toyota kit brand new in the box that I'm going to install first.

After posting in this thread I came across another thread Headlight upgrade FJ60? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/headlight-upgrade-fj60.1330774/page-4#post-15697079 where a Mud member @MWM1 posted up about their experience with VCL. They said that they were brighter and had a better cutoff than the Holley Retrobright.
Here's the link to the Vintage Car Ltd 7" LED light.

I think either of these is a better option than putting the LED bulbs in the halogen Koito H4 housing. The shields in the Holley and VCL are considerably larger than in the Koito.

Good morning!
Im traveling, but will get some photos of my setup from Vintage Car LED’s. I have had the VCL in my 1988 FJ62 for several months without issue. They are much brighter, use the existing wiring harness without modifications and do not need extra electrical components. Simply plug and play. The LED bulb does use a Hella lens which focuses the light beam and have not experienced an issue of other drivers complaining by flashing their lights. More photos soon.

Is the high beam indicator functional?
Swapping the bulb only is nice and easy if it works well. Look forward to the photos.

Awesome! Thanks

I will update the hi beam indicator based on the Procruiser video. I can tell visually when the hi beams are engaged! Four eyes versus two!

My headlight dilemma in search of a cost effective solution. Yellow tinted low viz headlights are a safety concern in low light urban areas. Homeless running around are a huge liability. The white marker lights provide the contrasting issue. Pix attached.

Put these in Betty ... OEM Toyota Koito H4 Headlight Upgrade Kit w/ Harness (ELEC81110KIT) - https://cruiserteq.com/oem-toyota-koito-h4-headlight-upgrade-kit-w-harness-elec81110kit/

yea....I like the Toyota "kit" setup. well made, works well. I tried some other things....either the high beam angle was too high or too low with respect to the low beam. If it matters I think this kit makes your low-high beam indicator light not work in the dash (but that was not a big concern to me) but one of the members here makes a little (device ...whatever it is)...you can simply plug in to resolve that (I bought that too)>

That’s me, thanks for the mention!
