Going to use @AlbertoSD excellent write up on how to install the boost compensator.

1985 BJ70 Story and Modifications

Just subscribed to your thread, David!

Glad whatever I write can finally help somebody :D

Please feel free to ask questions if you have any. I did the Boost Compensator fairly recently and I dreaded it more than I should have. It was actually pretty easy, specially if the engine is out of the truck.

I have to read the whole thread with detail :)

This is a great project and I am happy to see you taking it in this direction!

Did you ever had the top off of your VE pump? The compensator you pictured looks pretty similar in functionality. Tuning will probably be similar too.

Yes, they look to be identical. I think Denso must have licensed the injection pump design from Bosch. Should be able to tune it like my old 4BT.

Brought the Bantam trailer in with me this morning. Going to pick up the engine at my buddy's shop :)

@Sea Knight and I were able to manhandle the engine and transmissions out of the trailer this morning with the engine hoist. Got that done before the cold front hit. Must have been a 30 degree temperature drop.

Tucker (@tucker74 ) came by with his new pup. :)

Going slow, but I did manage to get the engine on the engine stand.

FYI, the mounting bolts from the power steering box were the right size and length to mount the engine to the stand. Thread pitch is M12x1.25. I had to buy a tap to clean out the threads on the engine.

Nothing major to report. Been busy with school, work, and family. I did manage to start taking the engine apart somewhat to clean it up and paint it.

I also drove my 40 into work today since the day was beautiful here in Austin.

Flipped the engine over and dropped the pan so I can install an oil return line for the turbo. Found the corner of the pan rusted, but the inside looks OK. Anyone know if these are double walled?

Not much to report. Spent last month getting my 40 ready for Round Up.

I did swap in a newer oil pan with the turbo return line already welded in (thanks @Loober ). The old one had a rusty corner area. I also started cleaning/degreasing the motor so I can paint it. Might do the boost compensator install too while I have the intake manifold off.

Cleaned up the motor mounts and alt bracket and sprayed them down with some Rustoleum semi-gloss black.

How sketchy was it to turn the engine on that HF stand? I have the same one with a 3B on it but I haven't got the nerve to try to flip it yet by myself?

Really freaking sketchy. I got the stand from Amazon. It's rated at 1500 pounds and is made by Torin. I was lucky that I wasn't knocked unconscious when I first flipped it over. To get it back upright, I had to use the engine hoist to help support one end. I also used the floor jack and a piece of wood to help me rotate it. Freaking nerve wracking.

Thats what I figured. Sounds like the day I used the engine hoist to remove the engine from the back of my truck on an incline. Fun stuff.

Man, it's been one of those weeks at work. I did manage to lay down some primer on one side of the engine this evening. Funny how something so small can make you feel like you've accomplished a ton.
