FJ60 om606 swap

I’m doing this swap as well. Shoot Luke an email about it if you want but I sent him a 3F bell housing, shift fork, throwout bearing and collar and clutch slave to tweak his current H55/BJ73 adapter to work with that setup.
So I have been communicating with Luke, and Rebecca, at DieselPumpUK. After initially being told that they were going to be making these adapters, they have since said that “it does not make engineering sense to produce this kit as the cast iron housing makes the task not viable.” Is this what you have been told also? It has me very confused. They instead suggested using their bj73 kit and the associated bellhousing + clutch parts but those seem to be nearly unobtainable here in the US. Big bummer at the moment.

That is news to me. I haven’t heard from DPUK since Luke and I spoke last, back in mid February.

Might want to check in, I am really scrambling to get this figured out as I want to get this done before August. I have asked for an explanation and maybe they will change their minds.

Does anyone know of a source for the bj73 (3b?) bellhousing and associated parts? Am I correct in assuming that I would need a release fork, slave cylinder, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing from what I have? I can’t seem to find anything. It also seems weird that he describes his bj73 kit as using a 10 spline input shaft when from what I have read a 3b truck would have a 27 spline shaft.

Well, his kit includes a throwout bearing to suit the pressure plate and clutch supplied and uses an oilite bush on the flywheel in lieu of a pilot bearing.
I did find it odd at first that the description states BJ73 and uses a 10 spline but the product video does feature an h55f with 10 spline shaft which is what we need anyway.
I sent an email yesterday so we’ll see what comes of it.
Thinking out loud here and going off of what TT said, a 2H/12HT bell housing might work. Comparing photos of the 3B and 2H/12HT housing they do look nearly identical but I’d want to confirm before trying to source one from AUS or CAN. There are also some differences between 3B housings. BJ60 and BJ7x. Whatever bell housing we end up going with will probably need the complementary clutch fork, collar and clutch slave as the clutch fork from the product video looks different compared to the FJ60 one I sent Luke. Then we’d need to make sure the hydraulics work.

Here’s the product video. Maybe some of the sleuths on mud can ID the bell housing and clutch fork.

I'm pretty sure I have an newer 3B bellhousing (aluminum). I'll look tomorrow.

All 2H, 3B, 2F have the same bolt pattern on the engine and transmission side alike. The difference was the internals/shaft of each model.

I should have an early and late 2F (stamped 2F or 3F) bellhousing as well. If I have time I will confirm patterns and depths of each as well for you.

Early 2F housings must be opened up for the H55F to fit. Older 2F housing (stamped 3F) bolt right up to the H55F.

1990+ BJ73’s with the 2.5L VM motors used an H55F with 10 spline shaft
Aha, so that is what we are looking for. Just did a quick search and it seems like those are even more obscure (just used in European market trucks) 😩, and I can’t seem to find much on the bell housing. Thanks for figuring that out. Anyone else around here dealt with these?

I found parts diagrams for the 1990+ VM powered BJ73. Part number 31111-60160, clutch housing.

Link to megazip diagrams:

When I search that part number it shows compatibility with 2H and 3B. Can any parts gurus confirm that?

Part numbers for the clutch fork and slave cylinder are the same between 1990-1994 VM powered BJ73 and 1984-1990 HJ75 according to linked diagrams.

Awesome work. I have a stock request in for that bell housing at RHD Japan, looks like ~450$ before shipping etc if they have them. Will let you know how that goes.
See if you can get the matching clutch fork and collar as well.
Also note the bellhousing use the stiffening plates that bolt to the block. Would be a good idea to fab something up to replicate that for the 606/bell interface if possible. There’s gonna be alot more power going through all this compared to a stock 2H or 3B 😎

Yes, should be the same engine and transmission pattern as 2H, 3B, 2F.

So if the depths are the same; the late model 2F (stamped 3F) will work and you should be able to find one for 50-150.00 almost anywhere.

Only thing I'm seeing is that the starter on the 3B is on the LH side and these pics show its on the RH side.

This is why I said earlier on in this thread that that the orientation of the starter changed over the years.

Their video shows it on the RH side here....

But BJ bells have it on the LH side.

Thank you for checking on it. That makes sense and jives with what i’ve found online with regard to the different 3B housings.

Just for clarification, I now suspect the trans and bell housing featured in the product video came from a 1990+ european market BJ73, which isn’t really a “BJ” at all, such that it does not have a B series engine under the hood.

After doing some research, I found Toyota used VM produced 2.5l turbo diesels in that specific model to get around some silly EU regs. The bell housing sandwiched between that VM motor and the h55f w/ 10 spline shaft looks to be the same as the 1984-1990 HJ75 but without the tach sender as far as I can tell.
