Caught up on some reading... oh man those little fishing streams you find... I reckon a good day could be spent there fishing and it wouldn't matter much what you caught.

And those flies you've made are crazy cool. Really makes me want to try out fly fishing.

Your cruiser is looking fantastic bro. What a place to have to ride a 40.

I guess I should look back and update this thread, although there probably isn't anything to update other than fishing.

OEM steel rims are still boxed up in the garage.
I haven't bought any new tires yet.
Roof rack still needs some work done to it.
Rig still pulls to the left a little, I worked on that a while back but I can't seem to fix that issue.
Still don't have a efficient/safe/convenient method of transporting fly rods.
I'm still running without a steering damper.

I should wash it.

On the bright side I drive it most every day and have a chance to stop and fish a few times a week.

I’ve used long PVC tubes cut to rod length for rod transport with a sealed end cap and a rubber removable cap. Sometimes I’d strap the tubes to my roof top until my cousin and I made a custom rack. Our sturgeon rods were 12 Ft single piece rods. Also, you could make shorter tubes if your rods break down and zip tie them to the roll bar inside the vehicle. If you prefer to keep your rods lined up and ready to roll to stop and hit streams quickly, you can cut PVC tube sections in half length ways then bungee or tie them down. Quickest way I’ve found when I’m stream jumping to find fish.

All minor issues as long as it gets you back and forth from the streams, rivers, and lakes, LOL.

You can tell what my priorities are!

Checking the windshield to see what's hatching on the river.

A thought hit me in the head yesterday on the drive home, a total Cpt. Stupid moment.

My speedo is off by approximately 10%
Speedo says 60, I'm doing like 65 ish.

I never thought about mileage, until yesterday.

I drive 1 mile, I roll over about 9/10ths of a mile on the odometer.

Sooooo, if I'm off ABOUT 10% on the odo, I'm putting on about 10% more miles between fill ups.

Which in turn should mean that I'm getting better than the 12.5ish MPG that I calculate every time. (11-14) depending on driving style and forest service roads.

I also broke part of the base on my Tuffy console, hopefully pics and repair will be coming this weekend.

Whoa... a bit too much tech.

Where's the obligatory "truck by a body of water meant for fishing" pics?!?!

Tech: I calculated how much my speedo was off some time ago and in my spreadsheet that calculates my fuel mileage I have a factor applied to give me the actual MPG.

Sometimes you have to take a break from the fishing and make a fuel run.

Or I could fix my Scepter MFCs in the garage and fill them up.

I fished the next valley over last week for a few days, the fishing in the daytime was horrible. Lots of driving around scouting water and beer drinking. All the fishing action started right around dark. There’s a good fly fishing thread in chat that has some better info on my last trip.

Dang that’s nice looking water. What you fishin’ for? I finally got a few days on the Salmon River here in Idaho between Stanley and Challis (one run below Challis). Good action on the western cutties, especially swinging soft hackles with my custom bamboo trout Spey rod (built by Dave Dozer - bamboopursuits, whom I highly recommend if your in to classic gear) and restored silk flyline. I like a challenge. That’s why I use cruisers around the ranch.

Oh yeah, tech. Well, given these are steel rigs I use a vac-rac (magnetic) for carrying my rod - only ones that are being used. Others are in their tubes hidden out of sight in the rig. (Full disclosure - I used my GMC Sierra plus camper on this trip, too far for the beaters).

Same cutties, just across the hills from you!
