Yeah, I was a wondering when all this rack work, nifty as it is, would finally lead to something ‘useful’ ;)

It still hasn't led to anything useful as far as the rack goes, I only used it to strap down camp chairs this weekend.

And never used them.

But you used the rack. That's a win in my book.

It is still the foundation of a system to carry rods, that is one of the next steps down the road.

There were a few lessons learned regarding the rack, one, it needs a floor of sorts, my action packer tub doesn't sit quite right without a floor. It's the tub that I keep oils, coolant, and dirty rags and such in.
Another side effect was some brutal squeaking that came from the drivers side, near the clamp.

Turns out it was the header piece where it crosses over the door opening, where the 2 pieces come together ar the rear, they were rubbing together and creating the most annoying squeak. It took about 8 times of stopping to investigate things before I found it.

Have you ever measured the rear spring length (eye to eye, along the main leaf)?

I have in the past, I don’t have a clue what it is now.

Got bored, went fishing.

I noticed yesterday when I was washing the mud off of my 40 that I had lost the rubber from the passenger side mirror.

The door pin is also sliding down a tad, I leave them in that way for easier removal.

What a great excuse to go drive back up into the mountains.

Exactly where I thought I lost it.

Why the pin is upside down? You’ll miss it at some point, especially when it’s already loose.

I leave the top pins in upside down so I can pull the doors easier, if you put the pins in from the top (the right way) you need to lean the windshield forward a fuzz to get them out. Or beat the snot out of them and chip up paint.

They are not loose by any means, that one pins drops a tad after running rough roads all day, but it is tight as can be from there, both ways.

You ought to look into picking up a set of the door hinges made by @69LC. Super stout and door removal is now a snap for
me. Really nice product. Install is a little bit of a strain on the top hinges, but once that is complete they really rock!

Cheers!

Do you have any pics of these hinges?
