I just called Derale and they said the bushing manufacturer sent out a batch of 3/8” brass bushings to the sensor without a tapered thread. Sending me a new one so at least I’ll have a spare.

All wires and sensor leads ran in and connected to the instrument panel.

Got the water temp sensor installed in the back of the block. Tested the unit on my lap. Calibrated fuel gauge. Decided to take it for a test drive. Below is picture while on test drive.

Only issue is my gauge lighting isn’t working. Adjust dial and nothing happens.
Also my water temp didn’t get any higher than about 150F. Got back to shop and opened the hood. Thermostat opened to radiator as it was hot. Wondering why my water temp didn’t get higher?

@FJ60Cam I believe I have a bad inverter...

Where did you tie in to the factory wiring for the backlighting? The dimmer switch? Do you get +12V to the inverter when you turn the headlights on?

@FJ60Cam ... and possibly my water temp sensor isn’t accurate.

Are you using the same temp sender location as before? Can you check the radiator/hose with an IR gun to see what it should be reading?

No lights with headlights on.
I should be able to check with heat gun on Monday.
Other than the backlighting not working I’m totally happy. The fuel level calibration was fairly easy and the speedometer acquired satellite and started working.

Put the dimmer switch in the factory location.

Ran the GPS speedo sensor cable inside the windshield trim molding with double sticky tape to attach to windshield. After finished could only see the GPS sensor.

The next project was the hydro assist clamp that connects to the tie rod. The smallest diameter they make is 1-1/2”. Unfortunately it’s way too big for the Marlon Crawler High Steering tubes. Had a 1-1/4”x6” Black pipe nipple at the shop which would work. Cut the threads off with the bandsaw. Then used C-clamp with cut off disk to split the nipple.

Cut nipple so it would fit inside the assist clamp.

The radius of the clamp and steel nipple were just a little different. Used a 1” SS bar in the vice and used it to form the nipple half into the clamp.

Welded the nipple ends to the clamp.

Welded and filled in the center holes of the clamp. Used the grinder and flap disc to cleanup the ends of clamp.

Holy #### that is a good idea.

A great day on this Memorial Weekend to enjoy a family adventure. Our destination was a 7 mile hike to Ramona Falls on the west flank on Mt. Hood.

Great hike with the kids and a lot of teaching how the forces of nature shape our landscape around these volcanoes.

And when the kids get tired there’s always a tree to give a spot to rest.

Rocks randomly dropped throughout the area from past glaciers and volcanic eruptions. Made perfect spots to make memories.

Seems around every corner was another climbing gym for the kids to play on.

On the trip down Mt. Hood still hid behind a veil but gave our family another awesome outing.

I can’t wait to move out there. Looks so great.
