Cut everything. Literally everything. I have had thoughts about using the upper link mounts for a trac bar but not sure if they are strong enough and @GLTHFJ60 has demonstrated pretty well that trac bar isn’t needed with the 63’s.

Getting cooler in the foothills and when September hits its wood season. Wanted to start removing the brackets off the 80s axle but priorities... o_OAlso got this axe last season and it’s a work horse imported from the Sweds. Need to order 60s gearbox repair kit with rings and seals and hydro assist.

That’d be nice. Pictures worth 1000 words.

I saw you ask in @The Phoenician's thread. There's a bunch in my thread. A SOA rear axle is going to look pretty much the same under anyone's truck...

Found a video on the 60s gearbox for drill and tap to add hydro assist. Pretty good showing the ins and outs of the gearbox and what to avoid. Anybody have anything to add?

The hydro assist doesn’t specify the FJ60 only 4runners and pickups. I’m assuming it’s the same for FJ60s? Looked online and cannot see one specifically for the 60.

On the box rebuild, don't mess it up. Read more, there are tons of threads about it, specifically the teflon rings.

For the hydro kit, lines may not be the right length. That's all I can think of right now.

I’ve been trying to find a rebuilt one. Redhead steering gears in WA rebuilds them for $525. Said they’d tap them too but it’s another $110. Crazy how much these gearboxes are. @boots4 said he could help assist with the rebuild. He lives about a 1/2 hr from me.

I don’t have a problem rebuilding and doing a tap and tread but don’t want to screw one step up and have to source another gearbox and repeat over again. I liked that video as I saw how the inside is construction and not the loose all the ball bearings. These boxes are hard to come by. I’ve reached out to Georg @orangefj45 at Valley Hybrids for rebuilt box/ advice but I see he hasn’t been seen on MUD since last Friday.

If I need to extend the lines we get hydraulic hoses made here locally. I prefer not to have to spend the extra money though after buying a kit.

My 80 axle conversion starts here Builds - Big Red Toy

I know I have more detailed pics, I just haven't found them yet. Let me know what questions you have.
