Idk what you're talking about. This is a solid mount, with steel center to prevent it from falling apart when the poly fails.

Resilient mounts need some metal to take the torque of the bolts used to hold it in place. But at the same time compress the elastomer so it can act like a vibration mount.

If the bolt torque load is directly supported by the rubber or polyurethane it will "creep" as in progressively flatten out and the mount will fail.

Just in time for this weekend.
Thanks Brice and Kurt @cruiseroutfit

Started on the Trail Gear hydro assist yesterday. It has one side shorter then the other side to contour the pumpkin. With the 60 setup for clearance it had to be the same on both sides. Welded on another plate of steel then traced the contour and cut with oxy/acetylene torch. Cleaned up with flap disk. Welded to the axle.

Left just enough clearance to remove the U-bolt plate if it ever needs to be removed in the future.

Got started on the 60 this morning just after 8:30am. Started painting the hydro assist axle mount and frame above axle.

Used 220 grit sand paper with my palm sander and cleaned up the rotor surface.

The next project was the hydro assist clamp that connects to the tie rod. The smallest diameter they make is 1-1/2”. Unfortunately it’s way too big for the Marlon Crawler High Steering tubes. Had a 1-1/4”x6” Black pipe nipple at the shop which would work. Cut the threads off with the bandsaw. Then used C-clamp with cut off disk to split the nipple.

Cut nipple so it would fit inside the assist clamp.

The radius of the clamp and steel nipple were just a little different. Used a 1” SS bar in the vice and used it to form the nipple half into the clamp.

Welded the nipple ends to the clamp.

Welded and filled in the center holes of the clamp. Used the grinder and flap disc to cleanup the ends of clamp.

Next was preparing the mount from hydro assist to the tie rod clamp. The sides were too long so they needed to be cut down.

The cross member needed to be reconstructed as transmission was making contact. Decided to go with round tubing and energy suspension transmission mount.

Not too bad looking for a 1985 Toyota FJ60 Landcruiser...

Emergency brake still needs to be finished. 3” exhaust needs to be reinstalled. 4wheelparts sent me the wrong lug nuts twice. Acorn the first time, then mag style but they don’t fit quite right. Needed to get this on the axles tonight so I can get the drivelines finished.

And another look...

I named it “Snowball”... my wife calls it “my other women”
A 15 hr day today and it’s now moving right along. Thanks a million Mike. This project has been awesome and soon can’t wait to go snow wheeling!!! :steer:

You are doing a nice job. Nice gingerbread man too. Go get really good stiff shocks. The off the shelf bilsteins that most of us run are too soft.

Whew... those were a long two days but I'm glad we pushed through and got it on the ground. We are getting closer! The front to rear level turned out really well. That was the mystery for me and it looks really good.

Now we've got a bunch of little stuff to get sorted and a couple of things to come back to and finalize.

You know that side name "the other woman" is working for me too, but for my rig. Dora just stands outside in the rain watching us work on snowball and get's neglected. Although after the year I've had with her she's had plenty of attention.

You know who’s here for you brother!!!
It’s been a lot of fun and some challenges that were overcome.
