The bit about buying a new computer gave me a flashback Kevin. I was 38 when my dad died; that was the day it first hit me that the world keeps turning.

I thought I could just bury myself in routine to help carry me through, so I went to work. When the phone rang and someone would politely ask how I was, I would tell them ‘not so good, my dad just died.’ After expressing condolences, they would ask me to sell them something, and I couldn’t do it. It all felt so callous. I locked up the shop and drove away.

My point: there are a lot of times in life where following routines are what help us through our trials and tribulations. But if it doesn’t feel right, maybe you should just ask for some time off. You are a strong, disciplined man, and if you take some extra time to work with your family on your new future right now, YOU will still have the willpower to return to your job. YOU will not fall apart.

And chances are your work will be happy to get you back on whatever timetable you offer them.

Mark,

You are so right on routines. Life changing events like- when a loved one passes or cancer shows its face at your doorstep, the time forward then becomes the "New Normal". I got the new computer to start my correspondence with creditors and insurance adjusters, but let me tell you...that habit of cruising though the classified had to come to an abrupt halt. All of my funds that I had accumulated for the landcruiser were redirected to our emergency fund. I'm hoping when I am able to get back into my place, i will be able to retrieve some items to sell on mud. I am hoping that something is left of my cruiser, the roof folded over it like a tent. Maybe that protected it.

My work has graciously given me the week off and after that time i can take vacation if need be.

I have found that I really enjoy words of encouragement from family and friends. I find that kind comments are empowering and good for the soul!

Thank you Mark and the entire Mud community (yes, including Mr Rust Bucket)

Thought I would post a picture. The tent looking stucture is what's left of my shop. I hope something left of my fj40 is hiding underneath of it.

Is there anything left to salvage?
I don't know if there's anything left to salvage. We have no idea of when they are going to allow us to go back in. Someone mentioned that it may be two weeks. I'm hoping that there's something left because I'm going to have one of those proverbial fire sales

Sorry for your loss - but glad that you guys are ok.
