No updates as of yet. We tried to get in today, we were able to get a little closer to the town but we're turned away. It is a mess.

Hey @kevos37, terribly sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine what you're going through. Thoughts are with you and I hope your road to recovery is smoother than the trails we're wheeling on!

Holy crap! I had no idea that so many in the Cruiser community were directly affected by these fires! Watching the news has been akin to seeing some disaster flick... Totally unreal... Glad you and yours are safe.

I am so sorry to hear this. Not just the loss of a good cruiser, but so many other valuable things. You will be in my prayers!!!

As our town population has been dispersed throughout the area, I stay in communication with my neighbors. I had just spoke with my next door neighbor, he has owned his FJ40 for over 40 Years. It is literally part of their family. Unfortunately he did not have time to get it out. He was able to go back in and get a couple things from his property the other day (his house did not burn down), he went up toward his cruiser and he could see it was decimated. He said he became too emotional and he started to cry . He did not get any closer, just turned around and left.

Soon it will be my turn in the barrel... As I look back though my build thread and reminisce, I can tell you that I have a lot more invested than those pictures show. I took every effort to re do everything to new condition. I wish I had obtained some insurance on my project. It had spent most of its time as a frame in my shop so I did not see the necessity. Something would have been better than nothing. So if you have a project... throw some insurance on it!

I'm also not looking forward to seeing my cabinet shop. A lifetime of woodworking tools in one place. Tools from my grandfather and father.

Again- I appreciate the kind words and support from the MUD community.

Thanks!

Kevo

What bodyshop did the media blasting and primer? I have been trying to find a shop around the Sacramento area to get some pricing.
There is Mace media blasting in Chico, heard good things but expensive. They will powdercoat it for you. There is another in Orland that I used. I used to have his number, but I lost it in the fire. Couple more in Oroville, City sandblasting...I have used them, I would recommend them.

I know by the picture you sent earlier in the thread things don't look good, but I hope when it is your turn that you can at least find a few things to give you solace. I really wish you the best and hope things get better from here for you and your family.

Thanks for the information and sorry for your loss in the fire. I have family in the Colusa, Durham, Chico areas and was able to get some supplies up to the fire victims to help them out. A neighbor of mine is an executive at Wrangler and gave us a truckload of coats, shirts, pants you name it.

I am looking to get my FJ40 blasted and some minor bodywork and put in a nice epoxy primer until I can paint it down the road. Would love to powdercoat the whole body like Icon but haven't found a shop that wants to do it yet other than the one they use in LA that is quoting more than the cost of a new truck!

Awh man...that just breaks my heart. The whole thing does. Really can't say how sorry I am for the loss Kevin.

On a side note, you should be able to get coverage for the project under your homeowner insurance since it can be considered personal property and it does have a value.

My adjuster said cars were not covered. I had a brand new gobi rack, she said I could have used it as a shelf and I could claim it.

Yeah, Homeowner's insurance specifically excludes any motor vehicles and their parts in most states. Even ATV's and dirt bikes. Hopefully this will prompt some people to sit down and talk to their agent to make sure that they are covered correctly. As an insurance agent myself, this completely breaks my heart. You and your neighbors are continuing to be in our prayers.

Absolutely. It's mind boggling to think of how many people aren't truly covered. I am an agent myself but I only do commercial lines. Could I PM you a personal insurance question?

Not to rub salt in wounds here, but automobile insurance wouldn’t come Into play for the act of god? Asking since that would of been my assumption, but not sure now.

Act of PGandE, not God.
