I need that mod ... 20 PSI boost and 300 EGT. ;)

Here are some photos of the wheels with 35x12.5R15 Wrangler MTR on them.

If you notice, I installed slightly longer shackles to help with clearance for the tires and also for the weight of the truck loaded.

Damn I love the look of your 70 Alberto, such a beauty! Are the extended shackles a permanent mod or just for wheeling with a full load? I'm wondering how her manners are on and off road with 35" tires, with regular and extended shackles? And what the clearance issues are? I'd love to stuff some 35" tires into my wheel wells. Trip looked great. If you're ever through Colorado (Denver) again, hit me up and you'll have a warm bed and beer a plenty. That offer stands for any other Mudders coming through town, especially 70 series owners

Although I throughly enjoyed all of the photos, to me this one

is the "money shot".

By chance, you didn't happen make two of these, did you?

Text Sent, Chris!

Looks like a great trip! Glad you made out and back safely.

Thank you, Peter. I had fun wheeling with you in AL.

Alberto, your cruiser just looks like a waste of time and effort. Give up and I'll take it off your hands and do my best to salvage it.

In other news. Envy....something about it being green...but this time envy may be tan.

Thanks, Nigel!

Alberto .. such a sweet attention to the details !

Thanks, David!

That Cruiser is a work of art!
In my eyes! Good job!

Thank you kind sir!!

Beautiful pictures and beautiful cruiser Alberto!
I got excited when I got the alert that you updated your thread and I wasn't disappointed.

I am glad you are enjoying the thread. I know I don't update it as often as I should, but I try to keep photos of most things I do to it.

@jfrench,

Thanks for the kind comments and thanks for the offer!!!

I might take you up on it next time.

Regarding the shackles, tires, and suspension, I am not yet clear on what will be next for the 70. I have a set of 255/85R16 with 70-series wheels that I will probably drop back in the truck for city driving, and keep the life of the 35's for fun trips like these.

As far as handling of the truck with the 35's and the extended shackles, I must say she handle the highway VERY well. Even loaded and going through the mountains I never felt like it was hard to control at all. I did add a little wedge on the front suspension to get the caster back some, but not sure how off it is at the moment (though, it handles very very well). The top speed I got was about 85 mph in downhill with tailwind , but she was able to cruise at 70 mph on flat ground with no troubles. Going through the mountains West of Denver....well....that was another story :hillbilly:. Your 13BT should be able to do much better.

When I put the 35's I moved the front axle forward 1" which seems to be a common MOD for clearing bigger tires on these 70-series. I did so by drilling the spring perch on the axle and also the U-bolt plate.

The only rubbing I experienced was, slight rubbing of the tire wall inside the vertical part of the rear wheel wells when articulating, and, in some instances, the front left tire touched the pitman arm of the steering box (also under articulation). I didn't feel it jam, but I did notice when it touch it.

Other than that, the truck went anywhere, and it almost felt unstoppable. :)

Hope this helps!!!

-Alberto

I'm relatively new to the forum and I've just read the Whole thread! Love the way you've done things and my BJ71 is directly inspired by your truck! I have a couple of questions if you don't mind!

How did you find the BFG 33x10.5 tyres? What width rims did you use? I'm currently getting a set but the size has been hard to find in my country so is very expensive and I don't want to lose my factory alloys just because they're not wide enough!

Where did you buy the later grille and indicator assembly from?

Thanks!
Josh

Hey Josh @Josh NZ,

I am glad this thread has inspired somebody ;).

I really liked the 33x10.5 tires, I think it is almost the perfect size for a spring under Land Cruiser. You can probably run those in 6" or 7" wheels with no issues. The wheels I had when running the 33x10.5R15 BFG's were the factory steel wheels which were 15 x 6. Once I swapped to the 35x12.5R15 I switched to Toyota wheels 15 x 7.

Awesome pictures, can't beat Moab!

Love Moab, I am already wanting to go back!

Nice pics...

... great "machine", enjoy it!

Enhorabuena compañero, un abrazo.

Gracias, Lulo!!!

Muchos saludos!!!!

Hello Alberto!!

Im finally getting everithing done to my FJ73 in Colombia, I would like to know the brand and how you did the water temperature indicator, I only seem to find digital indicators online and i really like the analog one you have. Do you still get the reading on the car panel as well? I have a 4.5 L injected engine so I think it used this temperature mesurement for something as well. Im not sure thow.

thanks
