"Never leave a man behind!"

The FF install went well for the most part. I am still working out a little issue with the rear shock mounts.

The earlier 70 series have the rear shocks mounted in such a way that the right hand shock will interfere with the rear elocker actuator motor as the right shock is normally mounted in front of the axle (left side behind the axle, right side in front of the axle). I didn't notice this until I mounted the axle and couldn't install the shock :frown:

I sent Wayne (crushers) a note as I know he just retrofitted elockers to a 1985 BJ70 just like mine. He mentioned that I needed to order the rear spring plate from a late 40 series (that has both shocks mounted behind the axle) and fabricate an upper shock mount to match the new shock location (Thanks, Wayne!!!).

Hey Alberto,

I'm getting ready to do the rear elocker on my BJ74 and I remembered reading you had done this so I was wondering if you had ordered that new lower shock-mount/spring-plate and how it worked out and if you had the part number handy....?

Thanks!

Hi Ben @theferg,

I don't have the part number handy, but I went into ToyoDIY and searched for the later 70-series SEAT SUB-ASSY, SPRING U BOLT, RH part number and came up with this 48046-60090. This is for a 2000 FZJ70, which should have both shocks mounted behind the axle housing. You will still need to weld an upper support mount on the rear upper shock cross-member.

Hope this helps and hope this makes sense. Keep us posted on your progress!

I am pleased to announce that we have submitted an article to the Toyota Land Cruiser Association (TLCA) about our trip to Angel Falls and it got published in the May/June Edition of the Toyota Trails Magazine. The article is entitled "Welcome to the Jungle"

You can see the announcement on the following link: http://tlca.org/

TLCA also hosted the video of the trip on their YouTube page:

Hope you guys enjoy the read and the video!!

Cool--thanks Alberto! I was just poking around on there and came up with the same part number from a BJ75 and was gonna look around and see if it would work. What's more, it shows as available in the US (with a superseded part number... 48046-60100). Now just to see if anybody can actually get it in....

Fantastic story Alberto! Liam and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

The rear side panels were partially broken from holding the weight of a 6x9 speaker on a thin piece of cardboard. Also, I want to mount additional items to the side panels (power outlets and auxiliary reading lights). To follow the aluminum theme I used on the rear doors, well, aluiminum seemed to be the material of choice :)

I bought a 4' x 4' piece of aluminum from the local steel metal supplier and used a Jig Saw to shape the panels.

Got a Doug's Tub for the 70. Thank you Ward @wardharris and Georg @orangefj45 at Can-Am Cruisers for making this nice and clever product available to us, 70-series owners in the U.S.

It is a GREAT way to keep things in place and organized in the glovebox.
