Currios to know why you decided to paint with the windows installed on the vehicle.

Will there be a small ridge from the tape line? If so, is that something that you can sand off?

Is it better that what you expected?

Again...Looks great.

Dave

Complete vehicle means less to bark up with installing stuff later..including windows.

There will be a small ridge on the tapeline....buried in clear right now so not to noticable, will be sanded smooth tomorrow and buffed out, should never notice it.

I would say it is better than expected, but I did have pretty high standards so I was doing my best.

Once it is color sanded out and buffed I am going to take some higher res. pics so you guys can get a better idea what it looks like. It does look damm good though ;p

You suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mine has been at the body shop longer than you have owned yours....................Im going to go crack the whip on those boys...............Yes it LOOKS SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET

Matt,

I don't paint and I won't pretend to even know anything about it. But I am the best wet sander and polisher I know of.

These micro fiber towels are the best I have use along with NEW cloth Diapers, they sell them at costco.

I also have a rockin 3" buffer from Snap-on. This thing is the best on FJ's around the hinges and tight areas. The pads are spendy and if you can get the pads from your vendor (I want all I can get) or from your Snap-on dealer you are welcome to use it.

I cant stand air 9" polisher. I have to use a Porter Cable electric.

If you have never used waffle foam pads for polishing, BUY THEM. They come is serveral sizes of cells from large (cutting) to fine (polishing) you will never use wool again!!!

I use 3M and it works great on clear.

I was out polishing some parts and was thinking of you, and NOT IN THAT WAY:flipoff2:

Yes, I did see that one...very, very, nice! If I was to make a guess I bet the reserve is set extremely high. Owner might be shopping it out on ebay to just see what it's worth?

If this person just did a complete rebuild I doubt he has the reserve set at 30k or something like that? I personally wouldn't let it go for that, it would have to much, much higher, but that's me.

Damn fine work, as always. Is your wife starting to get excited about her ride?

Just a bit :D She wandered out into the paint booth a couple times yesterday to see how it was going. Still going to be a little while before she can drive it, but getting closer....

Looks outstanding! I'm liking your color choice more and more. I hope you have some sunshine in MN so we can see the polished, finished paint outside in the light.

I went back and looked at what you started with and am amazed at the transformation in just 14 months. Your hard work and vision are paying off, this is an amazing vehicle. Thanks for sharing it with everybody, I have enjoyed following this thread for the past year.

Matt, got to say you made my weekend now, just got back from the woods and to come on here and see the paint on it is outstanding, I should hopefully start back up in the next day or two on mine. Got to fix what i broke out on the trails, and do alot of cleaning.

But again you have amazed me yet again with the quality of your work. My hat is off to you.

No leaps and bounds today on the lv. Didn't try to hard today, but got some stuff done.

I pretty much got up in the morning and started pulling paper and tape. That didn't take to long. Since I had a mess going with tape and paper I decided to clean up the shop and booth a bit.

Few pics of the lv after I pulled the paper. If you look closely at the last 3 pics, you will notice the paint is duller on the roof, hood, fenders and doors in the big open areas. I spent about 4 hours on the lv with 1500 grit wet sanding all those areas, took some time and I am getting really sick of sanding now. Paint actually was pretty smooth and nice, but I thought I would take the time and color sand it out......just to make sure it was like a mirror :D

Decided to call it a night. Probably going to start buffing tomorrow, hopefully if all goes well I can start bolting parts back on around Tues. or Wed.

Looks great!

Any shots of where and how you used that soft edge masking tape?

Thanks!

Nick Jennings

Here you go.....1 pic around the door, the other around the upper tailgate.

I think the pics say it all as for how it's used. Seemed to work pretty good and it was easy and fast to apply.

Matt,

Looking great!!!!!! That is the best looking Cruiser I have ever seen. The sad thing is I don't know what I'm going to do in another month or so when you get done and I can't get my daily fix from this thread. Thanks again for taking the time to document your resto for us. :D

Matt,

This is awsome. I was so excited when I got to work this morning just because there is internet here, (yeah, yeah I need to get it at home ) This was the first thread I checked.

The 45 looks absolutly amazing. I need to buy some tools so that I can start workig on my skills so I can get to 1/10th your level of craftsmanship.

I am looking forward to the high res pics and to see how you do the door pannels and finish up that center cousoul. Yeah Martha comes back. :D
