Light housing's aren't on there way yet :frown: I've got them blasted, but this sounds like a poor excuse...I just have been wide open on prepping for paint.

Hopefully all goes well for paint this weekend. If it does I should have time to take a breath and get your stuff ready to go with those taillamp buckets next week.

Looks good Mat,.

My method this week on a less than show cruiser.

FJ60.

Repairs, filler, high build primer(putty spray) sanding, then into sealer coat, wet o wet to final coat.

Could go and wet sand first coat and recoat. I was told this method yields a unreal finish.

As you mentioned I pay a 20 year painter to come lay the final coats, you almost have to be a robot to get the consistant film build.

Goood work, love the build.

The Toyopet is a leftover part from this vehicle - Toyopet Crown Custom

The cateye taillights and a few other misc parts also came from it. All LVs have a plate that covers the Toyopet that is held on by two screws.

A few pics from this thread of dented cans.

you don't suppose a hardware store owner is in the habit of using up the dented stuff his customers pass by on the shelves do you? :D

Do they all say "TOYOPET" on the rear emblem piece?

Yes they do.

Not much done on the lv, but about 3 hours of work getting ready to work on the lv tonight :)

I bought a new paper/tape dispenser today. I had a kinda a cheap one before, so I dropped a few bucks and had the local auto parts store order me one yesterday. So picked that up today along with a couple 18" rolls of paper and assembled that. Took about a half hour.

Also picked up this 1/2" foam aperture tape my auto body buddy told me to get. Used in the door jams, says it's faster and leaves a softer line along the edges. Comes pre-molded about 8 wide and you tear the roll so you have 1 or 8, in the pic you see 2 wide. One side has adhesive on it.

Also zip stripped up all my guns and got those cleand out and ready to go. I pushed the lv out of the booth and blew everything down one last time. Pushed it back in, last pic is the beast waiting for paint.

Hopefully everything goes well tomorrow, plan is to start at 8 am and not stop until it's shiny :)

I haven't posted yet, but have followed this thread for quite some time. What an absolutely AWESOME job you are doing to your LV and also teaching all us look-e-lou's.

Kinda feels like Christmas Eve with the anticipation!

Thanks for all your effort to put your rebuild online.

Brian

Bring on the paint!!!! :D

I'm going crazy and the anticipation is killing me!

Can't wait to see it in full color. Keep up the excellent work.

Well, after a few set backs during the day......and about 14 hours later......

WE HAVE PAINT!!! :D

Pics might not make a lot of sense, kinda took them when I had a chance...my auto body buddy and I were giver'n hell today.

Just walked in from the paint booth, so the pics are pretty fresh. Can't remove the paper yet since the clear is still juicy. Might head back out there tonight or early tomorrow morning and start pulling paper.

Overall went pretty good, few odd things that popped during the base that required a little wet sanding here and there and a touch of primer. But that is to be expected when you spray something as large as a grain bin.

One pic of my buddy shooting a coat of white, but other than that 1 coat of white he sprayed I shot all the color and clear. That's not to say he wasn't a HUGE help...he knew exactly when to stop and fix something, also stood back and barked orders at me while I was spraying. Defenitely would not have turned out as good as it did without all his help.

Probably start doing a little color sanding tomorrow and start buffing. I know for a fact that there are 2 runs in the clear, but my buddy said that was inevitable....going to happen on something this big and something with this many sharp angles. He told me no big deal, be taken care of tomorrow.

Anyway...pics

awesome...i will be back up this summer to go for a ride

You'll see it at Oshkosh this year....hopefully ;)

Currios to know why you decided to paint with the windows installed on the vehicle.

Will there be a small ridge from the tape line? If so, is that something that you can sand off?

Is it better that what you expected?

Again...Looks great.
