Tomorrow will be a bbq at old friends home and relax for Mother’s Day. Monday we will be headed to Nevada and over towards slc. Hope to hit LC museum on Tuesday before continuing on.

I hope you all have a great Mother's Day and you enjoy the Museum!

How’s the rig doing? I started to type how brave you are jumping in a 50yr old truck and driving it 12hrs a day, then remembered I’ve literally done the same thing in three different Cruisers 😜 Make sure you have a thermostat and gasket on you, if anything starts acting up it’s usually the cooling system … epic trip you got going 😎

So far good. First day has some burning oil smell but have since figured out it was the fresh greased drive shaft flinging oil on the exhaust or Atleast I believe. My biggest concern is rear third. It gets warm and had some fine metal in oil when changed before the trip. As far as spare parts I’ve grabbed a few and hoping to make it to Texas where I can pickup my spare box that tsa removed from my luggage. As we were boarding they called my name and said I had a lithium ion in my luggage which I didn’t then they said it was a box of parts that had oil leaking which it didn’t. But wasn’t worth dealing with a few hundred dollars worth of parts and missing the flight fighting them. One of my wife’s friends did a 5 hour round trip to pickup and ship to her cousins in tx. But the rig is running good and doing what it’s supposed to. First day I owned it after buying on BaT flew out to pick it up in Washington and hoped in did 800 miles with no problems.

Got a late start out of burns Oregon last night after being with great friends all stand eating more than anyone should. Took off about 930pm and it’s the intent of making the alvord desert but pulled over for the night at the Steens mountain loop road. Rested a few hours and made the desert just after sunrise, on our way across the northern Nevada section today with a few stops planned then into slc. Making progress

Gweniver is driving good, got an electrical gremlin 2 days ago where I intermittently loose gauges but seem to be back working at the moment. A few long days sitting at 1850 miles into the trip. Left burns Oregon late on Sunday hit Nevada early morning Monday. As much as I hate interstates cruised across 80 in the wind and dust. Stopped a few times along the way. Hit Utah and the wind was miserable the heat sucked. Missed the lc museum by 30 minutes so kept on going tell I finally had enough after 15 hours behind the wheel. Stayed in rock springs Wyoming Monday night. Tuesday morning we spent playing on two track and dirt roads on our way through flaming Gorge into Utah. Got to eat lunch with an old friend. I haven’t seen in a dozen years after that we hightailed it to Proffits where we spent the afternoon at the shop looking over all the rigs and parts and new additions. Was an absolute blast to see the work they do and have Chad show us around. Jp was gracious enough to have us out for the night and talk story. Left early this morning for another leg of the trip. Heading thru telluride and down towards 4 corners then across new mexico

The gauge electrical issue is most like a ground or perhaps the round plug in the back is cracked or one of the wire metal clips/plugs loose.

Something similar was happening to mine when I first got it. I had a ground issue and then also found the round plug was cracked. Luckily I bought a new round plug with Toyota correct wiring from @ToyotaMatt

Anyone have any suggestions across the top of New Mexico?. Was looking at route 64 across.
Taos is nice. No idea how that would fit into your route but it is at the top.

If you get a chance, there is a very cool museum in Los Alamos. It is worth checking out!

Hwy 64 crosses a very scenic part of rural NM. At least from Bloomfield to Raton. You’ll cross the Rio Grande Gorge near Taos. Camping at state parks near Eagles Nest or around Taos or Red River. Possible wildlife sightings. Eats in Taos include breakfast at Michael’s and world class Chile Rellenos at Doc Martin’s.
Safe travels.

x2 on Taos.

When I was fixing to work down there a friend of mine who had spent some time in the area had this advice about Espanola, "Don't be a white guy after dark there..."

Well, you can knock off 4 states in a half hour or less - UT, CO, NM, AZ - Four Corners.

On the way from Texas take US 285 from Pecos, TX all the way to Pojoaque, NM (north of Santa Fe), then NM 502 to NM 4 just east of Los Alamos, then west on NM to Bandelier National Monument and Valles Caldera National Preserve. Continue on NM 4 to La Cueva, NM, then west on NM 126 to Cuba, NM. In Cuba, take US 550 north to Bloomfield, NM, then west on US 64 through Shiprock, NM to Teec Nos Pos, AZ. In Teec Nos Pos, take US 160 northeast past the Four Corners. After passing the Four Corners on US 160, you'll enter CO. In a few miles, turn left (west) on CO 41, which becomes UT 262 in a few miles. UT 262 takes you past Hovenweep National Monument on the way to Blanding, UT. From there, you have a lot of choices to see the scenic southern Utah canyon country - UT 95 through Hanksville and Capitol Reef National Park or US 191 through Moab and Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park.
Did a lot of this in the opposite direction

Aiming for Austin-ish area tomorrow night, is there any where to camp that’s recommended. Was looking at hidden falls off-road park in marble falls. I know it’s not in Austin but that’s what showed up on google. Plus Saturday morning we have to stop by my wife’s dads grave between marble falls and kingsland then over to horse shoe bay and end the day in fredricksburg
