It took almost a year and a half of blood, sweat, tears, a little $$$ and some great help from several people on this forum to make possible Wilbur's inaugural trip to the beach today. Exactly what I bought and will continue to build him for. Wilbur ain't beautiful, but I don't need or want him to be. He's tough as nails and will only continue to get better. 180 mile round trip. 120 road miles, got a few "nice trucks" and a few "get the hell out of the ways", loved every minute. 60 miles on the beach (Padre Island National Seashore) was a dream come true that I have missed for more than a few years. Wilbur is as much or more of a beast than my old FJ40 was. Even caught dinner. Many more trips and vids of Wilbur eating the beach for lunch to come.

Heck yah that’s awesome!

Wilbur looks stock height. Any lift? What springs are you running? What size tires.
Thanks. Bought him this way as far as the suspension and tires go. Don't think there's any lift and I don't see any branding on the shocks or the front stabilizer. I suspect stock leaf springs as well. The tires are Falken Wildpeak AT3 265/75 R16. I've been driving this beach for almost 50 years, but not for 5 or so lately. The secret is not "lift" it's knowledge of the sand conditions and ability to navigate them. I had so much fun powering Wilbur effortlessly thru the deeper sand further down the beach again after too many years. Brought back many good memories and am ready to start making more.

This is what everyone of us is working toward or doing with their 55. So happy to hear you're getting some time in life to make more wonderful memories. We want to get down to Padre Island in the near future and your post just lit a fire under us. 👍

Thank You!

What is the best way to go w/ sand?
Wider tires/lower inflation pressure?

These tires are Falken Wildpeak AT3 265/75 R16. I run 36 psi in them typically but they are rated to 51 psi. Wilbur is less rattly and noisy on the pavement with the lower pressure anyway. Some guys will air down to 20-25 psi, or even less in some situations. They say it helps you "float" on the sand rather than dig in to it. I have never in all my years driving on the beach bothered with it, but have told some people to do it when they were stuck. The only vehicles I've ever had stuck down there were my '70 240Z which had no business there anyway, just young and dumb, and my '84 Monte Carlo SS that a friend was driving. I told him not to hit the gas as soon as we stopped moving forward but he didn't listen. Had another friend drive me a few miles home, got in my FJ40 and had him out in a couple minutes.
