Howdy! Well, it's time for me to thin out my herd. Not enough time and money to properly care for 3 project rigs. This one is The Primo Pickup. It is the last year for a solid front axle, first year for fuel injection. It is an extra-cab with upgraded seats, so it is pretty roomy, even for tall folks. It has 204,000 on the original engine, and has never failed smog. On the other hand, it is old enough to qualify for Historical plates, which would make it exempt from smog testing, at least in Az. It has a 5 speed transmission, power steering, non working A/C, 35" Wranglers, 3" body lift, 4" suspension lift, and custom tube from John Hunter of Hunter Fab in Tempe. You are looking at a one of a kind 4 door Land Cruiser.
It originally was a LJ78 with the dreaded 4 cyl 2LTE engine coupled to an automatic.
I bought this vehicle with a dead engine and decided to install a robust PZ 5 cyl diesel engine, turbo charge it and add a top mount intercooler.
I installed a brand new R141 4 speed manual transmission (and new clutch parts) since it has a lower gear ratio. I then installed a 2.28 low range t/case.
The original LJ78 comes with 4.90 diff gears which I retained for this build. This gives you a healthy 55-1 crawl ratio for when you are off roading. This setup works great with the 35" boots that are on the truck.
