Forgive me if this is repetitive but I couldn’t find any threads with photos that reference this particular issue. I recently purchased a 2001 100 series. I’ve been super stoked to finally own one of these and coming from a 1st gen sequoia I’ve been very pleased so far. After our first good rain since ownership I’ve had some water finding its way into the driver and passenger footwells. Occasionally droplets coming from the area where the rearview mirror wire comes in. Initially I thought this was a sunroof drain issue. So I removed the sunroof, cleared out the drains with trimmer wire and poured water to test. Water came through clearly in both of the pinch weld drain areas. So I then removed the interior pillar trim to get eyes on the drain tubes themselves. I found that the corners of the headliners on both sides were wet. I will attach pictures of what I saw. Im unfortunately now thinking this is a windshield seal issue. Anyone who has dealt with this please let me know what the next steps are.

I would check your sunroof drains and also windshield seal. Easy way is to spray something soapy on the outside, blow compressed air on the inside. Bubble equals bad windshield install.

As a combo platter it sure seems like windshield seal is the culprit but I wouldn’t rule out a sunroof

How intensive is a windshield job?

Tested the drains yesterday, water was draining pretty freely. Seemed like everything was intact as far as clamps and drain tubes when I looked at them. No pinches or kinks.

Extensive and needs experienced tech.
Edit: Sorry, I know it's a bummer. I'm so thankful the PO of mine had it done by experienced installer (on 100 series specifically) before I took delivery of it.

It’s alright my gut feeling already prepared me for that. Around about what price range should I expect to dish out. I want it done right so I never have to deal with it again and can begin to do the fun upgrades.

IDK...because I've always seen the job as it relates to a replacement of a broken windshield...IDK if they can even guarantee not breaking good glass during removal. They may be able to fix leaks with the windshield in place...Best bet will be to first find a guy that has a documented record with these trucks (and hopefully recommendations from happy customers) and knows all the nuances of the side/trim pieces and rivets then check in with them about what your after and why. They may be able to test further for leaks.

With all OE parts and a rust-free truck it closes in on $1500 ...at least it did in 2024. My insurance covered it all, but I kept the invoice.

That seal on the top of the windshield is not factory Toyota. The factory seal is a gutter type that pushes in, not something that overlaps the windshield and body.

You could be in for some body work to repair the body once that windshield is out...

Fingers crossed there isn't a horrible amount of rust on the body line up there. I was able to look at the otherside under the headliner and it appeared pretty clean. Is it wishful thinking to think a shop can salvage the glass and reinstall it once the body work and trim is done correctly?
