Sorry for my ignorance but how do those snorkels not take in water when you are driving in the rain? Asking because I love those but I live in FL.
Couple of ways they intend to avoid that.
1. They have the side vent up on top. The design is supposed to allow most of the rain moisture to escape out the side and it to only pull air down the tube.
2. The fiberglass box or part that is just inside the fender from the bottom of the snorkel that you see has a small rubber drain on it that is supposed to allow any water to escape before it pulls air up into the tube that runs inside the fender and above the tire to the intake box.
I can’t confirm either of these things accomplish what they intend. I haven’t run this snorkel for long yet and it’s relatively dry here in Montana.
A number of people have also questioned the ability for this design to have enough cross section volume for the 5.7 engine. I plan to do some testing eventually to quantify if this is a valid concern. If it proves true, and is hindering the breathing of the engine/intake, I may create a small additional intake from the bumper that I can block off in the rare event I need to cross deep water.
It also came with some 3d printed black grills that are intended to block large debris from getting into the two top openings of the snorkel but I don’t really like their look and quality. I hope to eventually come up with something that looks better. Maybe metal and painted matte grey like my bumper.
Unfortunately, I love the look of this snorkel and wanted it, despite those concerns.
…and, yes, I need to create some fender liners.
