Bought my 36 year old cruiser on April 1st 2006...drove it 300 miles home that day. Went through snow, rain and 95 degree heat on the trip, worked great. Was loud...not like the new truck my wife followed me home in. Top of my right foot cramped up after a while...weird gas pedal position(that reminds me I was going to change the angle on that), and no hill-billy cruise control(hand throttle). And mine is a loud clanging POS, and I'd still do it again.

I am currently driving Humboldt-SF-Santa Cruz-Big Sur-Santa Monica-San Dimas-Joshua Tree-Mojave-Death Valley-SF-Humboldt in my 83 BJ42 with about 270k miles on it. I did bust the exhaust pipe at the beginning of the trip, but otherwise I'm doin' fine.

Bought my 74 40 about 1 year ago, drove it 400 miles that day to get back home. Bad breaks, worse shocks, no radio, weak clutch, bald tires.....
Man I loved it.
It is much better now and would easily drive it most anywhere.

Drove over 2000km... BC to SoCal in three days... the '81 BJ42 did just fine... the 35" Baja Crawlers were a little loud... but earplugs always come in handy.. :D

My daughter and I drove her 76' from Northern California to Baja where she lived for 2 years before driving it back home by herself. About 750 miles one way. I'd do it again if she had better tires on it.

k dude...i drove my cruiser proll 250 miles the first day i bought it to get it home....the trip was interesting but she got me home....the 40 will make it, my biggest bitch is im about 6" taller than the PO and couldnt ajust the friggen seat!

i do 500 mile round trips to my cabin up north about half a dozen times in the summer season alone. i guess it wasn't the smartest thing doing it the week after i bought the cruiser...

The very first time I ever saw my 40 was the day I bought it. The only testdrive was the 1000+ km drive home through the Canadian Rockies in March with a soft top. It rained, snowed and was freezing cold but with earplugs and a lot of cafffeine we made it home. Only issue was I broke the spare tire carrier on a bump about 350km from home. Loaded it in the back of the cruiser and carried on home. ....Steve

I bought mine back in February, but I'm flying down to pick it (a '72) up on the 30th of June from northern GA. Day 1 to Durham, NC. Day 2 to DC. Day 3 back home to Philly. Then I'm moving to TX in it later this summer. Trying to save some money in case the sh!t hits the fan on either trek.

Have to say that this thread has been pretty encouraging though... Thanks for existing.

My dd has been cross country twice SF to Miami, Mexico, Baja, and Hawaii. Never has she left me stranded. Back in action once I get the birf seals done next week.

YES,
It is my belief that if the ride can not even get to the run under it's own power, how can you trust it to make it through the run?

Anytime anyday! that is the best thing of a Toyota, you can allways trust them! And Land Cruiser is not only a Toyota, is the one that started it all, is the best Toyota!

went on a wheeling trip this weekend and it felt like i drove 500 mi lol..was actually closer to 300

Backed mine off the trailer when I got it home under the impression it would be a while before I drove it at all. Aired up the tires, put in a battery and some gas in it and been driving it daily ever since. Now with new tires, a tune up, and a few little tweaks...no question, I'd drive it anywhere I wasn't in a hurry to get to as long as it wasn't 110 degrees like it has been lately here.
