If it helps to soften the blow, for sure I want to send it. Plus you’ve helped me out before! Let’s chat about if it’s the right one. I’ll get pictures of it tonight.

Started a list a few nights ago. What a pain in the ass.

Whoa! You're going all the way in. Full open-heart.

I got $5 on it for you. DM me your email for the Paypal fund.
Funny guy. I wasn’t really serious but....

Your list is missing beer....
And haven’t you said you might still have an intake leak? Not to give you more work or anything... are you re-using the gasket for that?

I’ve got spare gaskets, (2) for the manifold. Thanks tho for the reminder. And beer.... easy enough but that’ll be well after each task is done.

If the other head gasket doesn't work out, I have a non OEM gasket I will give you for nothing. It was for a 1985 2F and came with the rebuild kit for said engine. I opted to use a Genuine Toyota gasket just because I am paranoid, lol:cheers:.

I've saved thousands of dollars on mechanics as a direct result of this forum and all of you ih8mud community members. Felicity's thread has 80k views. I'm guessing this thread has collectively saved a ton of peoples hard earned money.

I just put up a small donation to her via Paypal. You all should too.

So I’ll just put it here if anyone really feels willing to help out, my email, fblakeley@gmail.com
I know I’m daring as all heck and jump into things well beyond my abilities but I guess I just thought this is what a Cruiser owner does and as a female I felt even more that I couldn’t just give up when things got hard. After all I’ve gone through w/ my daughter years ago I guess I look at my truck as something that I can easily manage.
Being a single mom of an almost 6 old that only works 24ish hours a week, money is tight. I’m lucky in that my mortgage isn’t what most have now, I bought this house very cheap w/ an inheritance, paid cash and then immediately took a heloc on it to make it liveable. It literally wasn’t at all, no plumbing, half the fixtures were broken, hole in the wastepipe, electrical was all knob and tub, windows had 1/4” gaps. “Doing” has never been something I’ve not known. When something breaks or I need something I typically just try to figure out how to fix it or make it myself. I’m not a big God believer but I will say I’ve felt I’ve had something taking care of me along the way. How else would I have survived my child dying horribly from cancer and still being able to persevere speed bumps that come up along the way? I have a sister that I barely speak to, she knows nothing of the inner me, she’s seen the truck once, but is clueless to what I do, we rarely speak as a result of poor upbringing and our relationship really took a dive when my daughter died. My mom is a resident at my work because she had a stroke due to her own poor care of herself and binge drinking so even tho she doesn’t get to do drugs and drink now she very affected. As a young adult I always remember telling her ‘your an alcoholic’ and her response, ‘I’m not an alcoholic, I’m just a drunk.’ Hahaha. I always thought that was so fitting for her personality. I barely see her, thankfully I’m rarely assigned to her hall. They are my only immediate family. My dad is on the cape and I only talk to him when I call on his bday or T-day. His siblings (6 now, the aunt who was like my mom died from her own cancer in ‘15) I rarely speak to either.
All of you have truly become my family especially now in this heavy technological world of cell phones and the internet.
So here I am looking at pulling my truck apart AGAIN. I keep saying I’ve half assed everything all this time, now it’s time to do it the correct way. This is the lesson in it all is basically how I see it. Par for the course, I did it to myself. Learning through error basically. If you have anything to add feel free to tell me, remind me, correct me here or in a pm, I will be all ears!
Thank you again folks. You’ve all honestly taught me everything I know.

That's rough, sorry to hear that.
Does it still run and drive pretty well? I think you might want to seriously look into picking up another long block, cleaning that up and swapping it in. This will seriously decrease the downtime of the truck and I don;t know about you but I sometimes start to loose a bit of motivation after a project sits for awhile.

How's the saying go F..... Do not ask God for a lighter load, ask him for broader shoulders. For he only gives you items that he knows you can handle.

Over the years I have watched you persevere over a lot of items that many on here would have just immediately sold the truck and gone on to the next project/item/hobby/etc. It is amazing how much of a family this community has become for many of us and those that truly are LC fans get a smile as big as ours when we see another, regardless of perceived "shape" the vehicle is in. This IS your meditation, your mantra and your "safe space" working on your truck, like many of us. You came into it knowing there would be work needed, some TLC and did not shy away. That speaks volumes. GL with this and like many have already said... YOU GOT THIS GIRL!

Thanks, but I’m in no position to buy a spare engine. Barely in a position to pull and rebuild but it’s what it is, I’ll figure it out, always do. Somehow things always work out.

After watching all you do, pulling the head and putting in a new head gasket is well within your skill set.

Thanks. I think tho it’s gonna be a full monty this time.

I'm curious, what leads you to believe your rings/pistons are bad?

Most recent compression test 2 & 5 were 90 and 100, same wet (two years ago when I jumped the gun for far less those two were 130 and 140). Coolant mix up top and in air cleaner base. Quite a fair amount of oil from air cleaner weep hole onto the pcv pipe and grommet too. Still reaching out for a leak down tester but may just buy a cheap one off Amazon.

You're more than welcome to borrow the leak-down tester I built - never been used. Let me know and I'll send it off.
Nah it’s okay. I’ll figure it out soon. My friend whose helped me a bunch really thinks after seeing the photos of the coolant up top that a leak down won’t show much more. If I’m pulling the engine I’ve gotta do it the right way anyway. I guess a leak down and it’s results will just solidify my gut feeling of my HG slowly leaking.

How ambitious are you feeling I have a spare 60 that I got a few years ago as a plow truck had carb issues because of old gas never got around to fixing it seen as how it was middle of winter ended up using company truck to plow yard, but it’s sitting up at kinas body is in rough shape but the drivetrain is good if you want you can have the the motor and tranny/ tcase from it, that way you can go through it then just do motor swap plus gives you extra tranny /tcase
