@evilorgoodtwin fyi, I’m only joking. I’m working today and tmrw and weather stinks so not sure what I’ll get done later plus I’m not rushing all this...

I’ve got to be patient. I can’t f this up. I swear I’ll sell it if this doesn’t go right this time around. I’m very much burned out.

Weather immediately turned to t’storms after I walked out of work yesterday. Miserable CT weather more lately than not. By 6pm tho it cleared up and I went outside.
Lifters cleaned, coated the ends in oil w/ zinc. Side cover and new gasket installed.
Fuel pump next up.

What oil are you running? I’m pondering going Castrol 20/50.

Before my rebuild, my engine was old and I didn’t have the greatest oil pressure Robbie (the landcruiser guy in these parts) recommended I use the rotella 15/40. It helped a lot and the truck ran better.

Now with the rebuild I used conventional for the break in and then switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic, and get it when they have sales. Probably conventional would have been fine to stick with but I didn’t.

Fuel pump installed. Rod ends dipped in oil and zinc then installed. Held up oil pan gaskets (I have two) to see if one or the other was better. Both Toyota but one has red marking on it and one blue and the nubs along the sides are either inward or outward. Chose the inward one. Seemed to line up better. Tied up gasket in 4 places w/ dental floss leaving enough gap to turn down the arch ends to apply sealer tmrw. Pushed oil pan up in place just temporarily and MAN does it look nice!

Good job on your oil pan/gasket. Here's a couple of pics of some extra steps I did with mine. Keep up your really outstanding work, you are to be applauded!

@John McVicker and Felicity, is it obvious which direction it goes? Such as a front and back? I can’t remember. I really like how John did his.

I haven’t sealed mine. Just attached w/ a few threads of floss and added pan w/ 4 screws to see how it will look.
Honestly that much tedious ocd for the gasket? That’s pretty hardcore. I’m not quite sure I’ll go that hogwild....
There does seem to be a fan side vs flywheel. Pretty sure it aligns specifically w/ the arches and screw holes.

I did mine similar to John, but his technique is better. Let it dry overnight and nothing will move on you or get pinched when you’re putting it up the next day. I kinda remember the corners not wanting to align or mate nicely to the pan - so the clamps help seat them correctly.

@evilorgoodtwin, as far as orientation of the oil pan gasket, if you are using a one piece OEM gasket there is a correct direction to put it on. Just do the testing with a dry gasket and make certain all the bolt holes line up perfectly perfect so to speak.

My suggestion is to go to the FAQ Section of the fj40 section and look up @Poser 's thread on oil pan gasket install. As far as I'm concerned he's 'The Man' with a lot of great tips... No BS just tips that work.

Yes, I agree. I used posers thread when I did mine and just reviewed it again earlier tonight.

Hey @John McVicker apologies for scoffing. I’ll check out Posers thread there. I do remember one of his here in the 60’s but I don’t think it went into that much detail unless I missed it. I can do all that. Thank you. I was going to use Ultra Black sealer... I have a new tube of FIPG but after seeing a few folks say it dries hard, I decided to go w/ something more flexible.

Ok just read through it all and it was the same thread I’d read before and even commented on.
Will go out and play around. I feel for me, I’d rather attach it to the block then the pan to it but will fuss w/ them w/o sealer before committing either way.

Felicity and the Technicolorded Yota!
I love it! Actually tho the theme is red, blue and gray w/ a splash of orange. ;)

And at the same time do the rear main too... you know, while I do the oil pan gasket. It’s that easy!

:deadhorse:

Kidding.

Well once you start taking apart the dash and such you can start painting knobs and switches all kinds'a rainbowed! I dig it!

Nah none of that will get tweaked. More likely would be the hood. I have this grand plan in my head for some wild graffiti.
