For anyone interested, I recently found out a buddy of mine does wheel manufacturing for Raceline and also does all of the steel wheel stamping and welding. Plan is to swing down next Monday and test fit their 15" blanks to see what fits straight off the die.

Apparently for the circle cut out style steel wheels, the stamping was modified to remove the inside lip as this caused rubbing on the caliper on tacomas so they were able to easily remedy. Once I test fit and find out what fits straight on to our trucks with stock brakes, I can list up the part number.

I'm hoping I can find a D-cut out shaped steel wheel to fit straight on to prevent any grinding of caliper/wheel.

Nice! So the clips can be bought separately and then riveted or tach welded to a wheel?

Yes. They are not OE Toyota rather some VW variants that are commonly used.

Ok so I decided while I really like the FJ60 stock chrome wheels I will replace them with some 16 or 17" so i can run something a little bigger for a tire. After my Ironman spring swap, the 31" look silly and the tires i am looking at are limited in sizes.
I like the ones @beno sell but they are out of my price range.

Picked up one of these for a test fit (16x7 4" backspace, 0 offset) (i have seen them for about $15-20 less online at other places)

Pro Comp Xtreme Rock Crawler Series 98 Black Wheels 98-6783

The results

Lots of room by the Tie Rod end

Caliper

Looks tight but it is about the same as the stock rim and no touching (sorry I could not get a clean shot)

So these work.

Next I am getting 1 of these in 17x8 with a 4" backspace and -12mm offset

Vision HD 85 Soft 8 Series Black Wheels 85H7883NS

BTW both have a bore of 108mm so they fit fine.

Those are nice! but out of my price range at this point.

Also
I am running stock FJ60 calipers

See back on past # 375.... I think we are talking about the same wheel, except the version I used was 17inch & 9 inch wide. Anyway the issue was the 4 runner caliper on the front (so thats not unique to the width of the wheel, more of the design there where the wheel "center" in close to or is in interference with the caliper). In my case it was my determination that the 4runner caliper I had was little bit larger in width than the stock FJ60 caliper (I was lazy and never got around to measuring that, I meant to, but forgot). Anyway if so inclined the wheels will work but you have to run stock FJ60 caliper or grind caliper for clearance or run a wheel spacer...which I know some of the options are exactly what folks do not want to do , me included. Just wanted to ensure that others note the issues with the deisgn of the wheel as it potentially has interference issues with the caliper only (depending on backspace etc). Since I swapped back to the FJ60 front brake caliper I'm good with the wheel and no wheel spacers, no other clearance issues and I'm runnign 35-12.5 - 17 tires on the 17*9 wheel. The wheel is a problem with brake caliper interference otherwise.

So the Vision wheel absolutely did not work without a spacer (not for me and VA safety inspection is hit or miss on this)

The Wheels you have are they these ones? Pro Comp Xtreme Rock Crawler Series 97 Steel Black Wheels 97-7983S3.5

These are a 3.5" backspacing

Yes but I cannot find 17x9 in a 4" backspacing from them online any more. I do not have the time wait 2 months for them to ship if custom

So I am looking for something off the shelf under $100 the 16x7 work bit may be to narrow for the tire 285x75r16
So now I am looking at the ones above since I really do not want to run spacers.

Anyone know is a 295/75/16 will fit a 62 without issues? Going to be running the same level 8 16x 8.5 wheels theron ran, but looking to run a 298/75/16 instead of a 285/75/16

Looking for a 16 in rim that I can run without backspacers to work with upgraded 4 runner calipers on the front of my fj60 ... I have a 4 in OME shackle reversal lift kit installed on my 60 . Any running any they can confirm fit with 4 runner calipers ?

I'm running 4runner brakes with my 62 and the toyota 16" rims work (and look) great...these rims just look...right...

I'm looking at some TRD wheels p/n PTR18-35090 for my fj60. They are 16x7.5 with a 10mm offset or 4.625 in backspace. From what I've been reading, they may not fit without spacers, which I do not want to use. Can anyone speak from experience about that size wheel fitment on an fj60?
