All of the small bits cleaned and ready for re-foaming and installation... (hopefully tonight):

Small update:

Received the Standard Motor Parts Blower motor resister. What a piece of junk compared to the OEM unit.

Waste of $56 + shipping IMO. I would prefer to reuse the old, 30 year old unit. :meh:

The quality is obviously Chinese and significantly sub-par to the Toyota unit. The new unit has crappy plastic; the center portion moves in the housing and is not inserted correctly. The wires thinner and the weird ceramic stuff seems crappier too. Live and learn.

Some of the coil wires on that new blower resistor look like they are touching one another. That's definitely not good as it will lower the value of the resistance causing more current to flow and thereby heating the wires to a hotter temperature then designed, thus leading to early failure. I think you're right, either use the old original or switch to a PWM controller (which of course is not OEM and shouldn't be mentioned in this thread).

Wow, that thing looks like junk. The one I got from RockAuto (the most expensive one) was identical in every way to OEM, looked great, and is made in Japan....Hmmm

Just an idea if you wanted to stay OEM-ish... you could purchase the new 70 series that is available and unsolder/resolder the coils to the old 60 series part.

What a bummer! I wonder if there is a generic Japanese version.

I remember getting a Throttle Position Sensor from Standard, pulling it out of the box, and it was Toyota OEM all the way.

Sounds like you might be able to get something closer to what you need here:
You purchased the cheap (lame) one.
The Four Seasons (part number 20157) is the one to get.

I'm putting the old one back in. Screw this aftermarket junk.

Onur-

Did a little research. Seems like the Four Seasons part is made by EverCo HD for Four Seasons. Since I"ll be doing this job myself in the near future, I'll pay for the part (you order it) and you can check it out. If its near/similar to OEM quality, use it and send me another one when the time comes. If it sucks, I'll take care of returning it.

Scratch my previous reply - found you an NOS OEM part. Call me when you get a chance.

Jim the lad is on a buying spree. In fact I bet the engine was fine to begin with.....:)

Why all the mucking about with a fan resistor? ...

BECAUSE....

You will want to put off trying to start the engine "until tomorrow".
You will find some reason the next day to put it off "until tomorrow"
Then you'll look at your list and realize there is nothing left on it and that sick feeling of nervousness will rise up.
Then you'll think of an excuse to put if of "until tomorrow" again.

The Shaman Has Spoken

:)

(just poking fun... I hope this thread never ends!)
