Lots of progress today with one big roadblock (more on that in a bit).

Continuing the assembly process.

New PS pump, pulley, hardware and available soft lines:

Then installation of the oil filter bracket with new gasket and four new bolts. I coated the bolts with some blue locktite and the gasket got a bit of FIPG.

Then the oil pressure sender unit. Blue locktite on that one too.

Then the new oil cooler, pressure fittings, copper gaskets and orings for the back.

Then a new OEM "big" filter when on--mainly for looks right now. Just for more a personal feeling of "hey, I got the oil filter on!."

Next, new fan clutch, fan pulley, and fan were installed with new OEM hardware.

VC was installed mainly to keep debris, etc out. It will come off for start-up to make sure the top end is being oiled correctly.

New OEM upper and lower oil cooler lines were installed along with soft lines and new OEM clamps.

Then new OEM alternator, almost new AC compressor, JimC smog pump bracket were also installed with new OEM hardware. The only place new hardware was not used was where the old hardware has the numerical head. The superseded hardware gets rid of most of the numerical markings and that's disappointing. So, where applicable, I used the numerical bolts.

Then I ran into my roadblock. Was getting ready to assembly the manifolds when upon closer inspection I found these two ass clowns:

Really buggered my day. They both run into the runner of the manifold and don't seem fixable quickly. I wish I could have found them earlier.

After a consultation with my friend Poser, I decided to not use them. A few minutes of: "s***. great." Then a few texts with Cruiserdrew, a couple of phone calls, and I have a very nice exhaust/intake setup coming from Andy. Man--- he *REALLY* saved the day.

Well, at this point most of the engine assembly is completed. I have some brackets, hardware, etc. that is inbound from various sources and will get them this week.

So, for now the engine will sit waiting patiently for the parts to arrive from California.

Next up--starting tomorrow after work: split case disassembly, cleaning, inspecting, measuring, new gaskets/seals, and reassembly of the splitcase on the back of the new H55F. That work needs to be done this week--no exceptions.

Then we can mate stuff hopefully later this week.

Good Man, Andy !

It's what Mud is all about.

This is an incredible build, Beno. It looks way to pretty to actually start up and get dirty. Bummer about those cracks in the manifold. At least you found them before assembly.

We're all eagerly awaiting your next posts. I'm amazed at how many new parts you've been able to find, many of which I thought were NLA.

On start-up keep a close eye on the oil pressure gauge and listen for the change in sound as the oil fills the crank bearings. It will make a lub lub lub sound, almost a knock, until the pressure builds. Then you'll get the beautiful clickety clickety of the 2F rockers. Triple check that the dizzy is slotted all the way into the oil pump. It is possible for the engine to run without the dizzy turning the pump.

Some pics from today....

A lot of these parts are going to come off to get final tweaking in place, but putting them in place for fitment is important IMO initially.

Thank you for the pointers.

Before I put the dizzy in today (mainly to just close the hole into the block), I turned the crankshaft nut and specifically watched the pushrods go up and down, engaging the rockers, clocked the dizzy shaft correctly and installed it into the block, engaged it with the oil pump and felt what I seemed to be the necessary engagement...

I plan on starting and running the engine at initial start-up with the valve cover off so I can make sure the correct oiling is going on at the top end of the engine. Luckily, it won't be a gusher as these things are nicely low pressure tractor style... Just the way I like it.

I am very indebted to Cruiserdrew and Poser for assisting today.

I almost lost it..... I have almost $10K in parts, machining, hardware, clamps, hoses, H55F, all new clutch parts, all new split case gaskets/seals/bearings and when I saw those cracks I thought for just a minute, "I didn't see those two did I..." I thought just for a minute to close my eyes and not see them and when I opened them they would go away.

Unfortunately they were there. Poser said absolutely do not run it. I trust his many, many years of experience over my newbie judgement.

I am grateful to Cruiserdrew. I owe him **huge** on this one.

Dayum!
New oil cooler too?

Of course--did you expect anything else Joe?

That said, your engine, Spike Strip's and a few other's on MUD are my "halo" engines. They are the real deal. I am just assembling parts. I did not build the block or the head.

I'm just a parts guy looking at schematics and ordering parts and paying for them. :)

Incorrect pick-tags are all over the place......

Awesome progress!!! Bummer on the cracked manifolds, but it's better that you found them now as opposed to 500 miles down the road, when you're chasing down an exhaust leak.

This is pretty much exactly what I imagined a "crate 2F" would look like in the late 80s, early 90s if Toyota sold them.

^ This ^

Can't wait to see the rest of the "crate" drivetrain mated up!

Thanks Boss. Yeah, they don't say 30034 on them.

So far they have the following pick tags: 30034, 30039, 10096 and 10126.....

I can get you 04050 if you want. ;)

Thought I'd post pics of your manifold just for documentation in your thread. Detail of where yours is cracked. UPS says 6 or 7 days to the East Coast.

So did you already have a 5-speed in this truck or are you just now upgrading?
