Next up, let's start making this look more like an operational engine.

New bypass hose and clamps:

Installed on water pump to thermo housing:

Also got the side cover and new gasket into place. FIPG mated to side cover first then side cover to block with new bolts. The two corner studs are discontinued from Toyota. So, the ones on there were cleaned up, a bit of blue locktite and installed into the corners. Then the new hardware-- 13 bolts.

Powder coated side cover:

New OEM Kyosan fuel pump and insulator w/gaskets. Insulator is not optional using the OEM pump. It is absolutely necessary to space the pump correctly so that the camshaft can engage with the fuel pump arm:

New hardware for the fuel pump to block interface. These come already pre-coated with a blue locktite it seems-- nicely right in the valleys of the threads.

Installed on block:

For my man Dynosaur: :) Don't forget anti-seize!

Highly recommend a spark plug tool set for folks-- not the cheapest investment, but I have come to realize that having the correct tools is tantamount to doing good, quality work. :) This is a Matco set and it has proven very useful over the years.

So that's what a spark plug looks like! :)

^^^ If it was a diesel it could be a glow plug,LOL. I'm drooling over that engine Beno can't wait to see that thing fire up and purrrrr.

Next time round: 1HZ

I like where your head is at. ;)

Aftermarket Aisin water pumps will have the TEQ ground off of the housing. That is an anathema to me and NOT acceptable. ;)

Good thinking. It's probably a structural emblem. Can't be too careful.

I was thinking the same thing. Also, Onur is doing an amazing job of installing everything cleanly. That's a lot neater than my blob of antisieze that I would apply.

Those parts tags will last under the hood pretty well for quite a while. Near the exhaust they will wear out relatively quickly, but most of them will last for a couple years I'm guessing. I still have some on parts I put on the faux-lix in 2005.

I'm sure Kiichiro would be happy knowing that people are still very interested in keeping this old metal alive with available new metal.

That said, this man thinks I am nuts!!

Beautiful job - can't wait to see it completed!

If you have not done it yet, go out to your truck and put a piece of tape over the key slot for the ignition switch. THen put a series of sticky notes on your windshield. "Engine Oil", "transmission oil", transfer case oil". "coolant" etc so there is no way you'll start up without lube. In the excitement of finishing, it's easy to overlook something obvious with disaster to shortly follow.

This project is looking really good.

Jealous...way jealous.

In fact, it looks sooo good, I might just leave it in the garage, never install it, and go look at it from time to time...spend some quality time with it so to speak.

If there has ever been an image that makes me want to quit drinking........ :)

Yes I did Joe. They will no longer be needed during desmog.

The top violet BVSV still has a purpose in a desmog.

Vacuum from bottom port at back of Aisin carb, to violet BVSV, to VCV that controls the opening to allow fumes from charcoal can to enter nipple on carb spacer.
As per Jedi Master Jim.:hillbilly:
Makes perfect sense.

Not a problem when there will be no charcoal canister.

:)

Vent-to-atmosphere.
