I'll tell george we chatted when I get there for the winter in about 4 weeks.George Dudzic is a friend of mine, worked with him on several occasions prior to his retirement. Have not seen him in a couple of years.
George knows where I live, Perhaps we could get together and throw a couple back, and you could check out the "Bodega".He's doing good . I just talked with him the other day. Before starting another shop project, I decided to continue addressing the leaks that have gotten worse on the 40. The one that I have been putting off for a while was the power steering pump. I purchased the seal kit from Napa p/n 7-270 ($22.69). The job was uneventful but took way more time then the rear axel seal job. My rig is still smogged so getting to the main cast iron mounting bracket required removing the air injection valve/hoses and smog pump. The smog pump belt adjusting bracket bolts to the main cast bracket.
No pictures as this was a messy proposition. The pump, I suspected was leaking between the reservoir and pump as it would leak statically resulting in a mess over 3-4 week period. I decided to reseal the entire pump mostly due to the work required to pull the part. The inside of the vain type pump contains a s*** ton of little springs that require pre loading in groups of four prior to stuffing into a slot in the housing. The main shaft is eccentric and requires rotating it to a low spot to achieve maximum room for loading. The reason the main bracket removal from the block was the bolt that holds in the pump from the back would not come out as the exhaust manifold was too close.
Happy to report she's leak free! and the Napa p/n is a good one.
