Beings I was on the subject of melting my flops off. Can anyone tell me if this is where I can put a ball valve on the hose I'm pointing to in the picture, without Cutting off water flow through the block? I'm want to stop all water flow through the heater core.

That hose just for the heater, but the valve further down that pipe should shut water flow off

I'm with Taha.

The valve we already see there should already be able to stop the flow (when your "warm pull" knob is pushed all the way home).

If it doesn't, maybe it's time to replace it rather than fit something extra to do the job it should be doing.

From what I was told, that valve doesn't keep all of the water flow from going into the core.

Well, even if it still dribbles a bit of hot coolant into your heater core with your "Warm Pull" knob pushed all the way in, it still won't noticeably heat your cabin (if my experience is anything to go by).

And I find that with my fan knob pushed in (ie. no fan), my heater core never puts any noticeable heat into the cabin even when my "Warm Pull" is pulled out (unlike some vehicles where you have some natural air flow through the core from vehicle-movement/air-ram-effect).

Even with the "warm pull" knob pushed all the way in, my ('79 build) 1980 heater core is very hot to the touch, and adds noticeable heat to the cabin in the summer. I thought "Eterna-heat" was Toyota standard equipment. ;) I need to rig a bypass with a valve for mine; Texas summers are hot enough without further help.

Ha ha.

Maybe if I was in a climate that could turn into an oven in summer, I'd notice stray heat outputs more.

It is supposed to be spring here but I'm still bloody freezing!

I will replace it for sure but I'm in Florida and I can feel chupacabra's pain for sure. It most definitely radiates a lot of heat from that core. Damn, I'm a poet and didn't even know it.

Spent more hours than I care to admit chasing down turn signal/hazard light issues. I have now cleaned all of the grounds and bulb sockets and new bulbs. Found that I wasn't getting any power on one side of my fuse block so after some drimmel cleaning and new fuses I have turn signals!

Still no hazards which seems bizarre that the turn signals work...I'll leave that for next weekend.

I am taking the plunge! The board has finally convinced me...
1. Sill replacement (making my own)
2. Corner patches (CCOT)
3. As added bonus, replacing entire floor with a donor floor less rusty, less dented and less pitted.

Stopped counting broken bolts at around 15, but ready for action now..

After almost 2 years of downtime and tinkering to keep it going, I have to admit its been nice just to drive it this summer and not mess with anything. For those still in the rebuilding phase, keep going! Its awesome when it just drives and you don't open the garage door to a vehicle stripped down to the tub with parts all over the place.

Amen brother. I needed that encouragement.

With a hint of Fall in the air all week long and no rain falling from above, I drove my rig to work every day! Oh, last week, the Chevron gas station right around the corner from my office just started selling this:

......put 12 gallons in my rig this morning!

Yea, if only the last part was totally accurate.....I'd get 15MPG in lieu of 12MPG.... :steer:

I would be happy with 12MPG.... I haven't checked for awhile but it seems I get approximately 8 to 10 MPG around town. I know carb is running rich. This morning the wife asked if I was going to work on my 40. Replied: There's nothing that needs to be addressed right now. Her reply, "Well that's a first!"

Sticking with the title of the thread. Last weekend put in an Orion I had ordered a couple months ago. WOW!!! Knowing the gear ratio and the crawl ratio is and experiencing it are two total different things. WICKED!! Extremely happy with the install/mod.

So much quieter. Had really no idea how noisy my 37 year old case was until the new Orion.

After reading the 12 MPG............maybe I need to tune her up this weekend????

Four years in the making... Solid billet Aluminum, Stainless hardware... :D
