Did something I've been dreaming about for 2+ years: drive my own 40 to work and back on a beautiful day. :steer:

I can't wait for that day!!!

Wish I'd done that 20 years ago, rather than just paint... :frown:

Fixed my transmission leak from the pan. Do to this being a 350/TH350 FJ40, the front driveshaft had some clearance issues with the pan. Ground 1/16th off of the driveshaft and flange (that comes from the T-case). PO already ground the pan down, and there was no room for a bolt. Ground a pan-head scew flat, and welded it to the inside of the pan, so that I could tighten it with a nut on top. I love spending 10 hours fixing PO issues! This is my last and final leaking fluid!!!!:)

Looks much better without the bowtie :-)

Plus it won't confuse 'em down at Squiffy Lube when I take it in for the annual inspection. The first time I did that, the guy came out and said, "Wow, I had no idea Chevrolet made Jeeps!" What could I say? I told him just that particular year. :p

Loaded it on the trailer Thursday in Massachusetts and now it sits in Billings MT Otis trip to Silverdale WA.

Are you moving to silverdale? I'm in Bremerton, WA. Good to see another Mudder headed this way. If your looking for a good club to run with look up the Quadrapaws in Silverdale. We could use another Cruiser in the group.

Got a sound system finally in it. 2 5.25" shallow kickers mounted flush into my MT cage. Not completely happy with how they are mounted, so eventually I'll go back and re-do it using zeus fastners.

Ordered some parts, and have a few more to order this week to get closer to finishing everything needing to be done before Rubithon.

Tall front shackles!

Yes I know :/ I'm saving up for an old man emu lift,

Any ways, I decided to give my cruiser a coolant flush, and set the timing.

Josh - I thought you were planning on a 12ht?

I traded a full floater for the 2f and with the cost of diesel here it's not really worth buying a diesel to swap. Add to that the power of a 2f done up right and the fact that I know them inside out after driving them for 25 years....anyway, really I'm too cheap to do a 12ht :-)

I agree the 2F is more than adequate, with heaps of torque when needed, and in my truck was fine in the high country. However, my gripe with this engine is its incredible thirst - hence the decision to go diesel - and not just any diesel.

If you have a some spare time to kill, here's the background to the 12HT install.

Oliver,

Nice work - I'll have a read of your build thread. I'll even pick your brain when I get my 55, plans are either the 12ht or a 14b and turbo it!

Agreed Oliver, and nice work on the swap. However, I get 16.5 mpg with my2f on the highway and here in the US diesel costs about 20-25 percent more than petrol. This means that diesel and petrol costs about the same amount per mile, not factoring in the cost of the swap. Had I stayed in Australia I would undoubtedly have swapped out the petrol lump but here it simply does not make sense. I have a diesel in my wife's Jeep liberty (cherokee in Oz) and love it, but it costs just as much to drive as it's petrol counterpart.

Add to that our very cold winters and high altitude (I live higher than Kosciusko) and I have to plug it in three or four months of the year to get her to start smoothly.
