The stars aligned and I had my first free, easy and effective fix in a long time.

The manual steering was getting sloppy and starting to see drips of oil on the floor. Assumed the worst but popped the hood and just had a loose adjusting screw and lock nut. Tightened her down and all is well.

That won’t’ happen again for a few years……..

It's not any better for me.

There are still pics in post 5325 that are side-by-side and this makes it hard for me to view any posts on this page now without scrolling left and right continually.

No big deal .... Perhaps I should fit a bigger screen to this computer ... But then again, it's rare for people to post pics side-by-side and I prefer this size of screen. (So on that basis, I'm not changing it.)



I don't know why the admistrators couldn't limit side-by-side picture posting to images of a maximum size. (Or if that's not feasable - prevent side-by-siding picture posting altogether.)
But then perhaps they don't see the need to change either because of so few people posting side-by-side images.

Installed new parking brake shoes and spring kit. Installed new ram mount on the grab bar for my mp3 player.... Using the GPS Speedo.app until I get my new gauges.

Life is Good . . .

Finally back on the road after 8 months of having my '40 offline for major body work! Chased down a bunch of little electrical issues (info on my build), but mostly I drove through a full tank of gas during a week of epic October sunshine. Life is good with the '40.

Yanked the soft copper bushings out of the 60 series steering arms and replaced with steel MAF bushings, reassembled the TRE's and adjusted toe in on the Princess's 40. What a difference in steering performance.



Replaced the PO forward bent shifter with a straight one so she can make the reach to 1st and 3rd without taking her eyes off the road.

Replaced the smog pump on my 78.

New clutch master and slave; Napa auto made-in-China parts. Not by choice, but it seems to work. I'm going to order rebuild kits from Toyota and put the good parts back when I get around to it.

For the record, a 4runner brake booster covers one of the bolts for the clutch master.

Oh, and make sure you trim the actuator rod short enough so you can put the pin through the pedal lever before you have it all bolted to the firewall with the PITA hard line threaded.

pulled the gas tank out and took out the fuel sending unit to check for rust inside the tank, got ready for tomorrow by pulling out the radiator to check if the engine is seized

Changed the right and rear engine mounts for road worthy.. Ended up with the tip of my finger jammed between the mount and the engine. Was about as fun and awesome as it sounds. Replaced the rear sway bar and link bushes for road worthy. Just got to get new pedal rubbers, give it a degrease and refoam the drivers seat and it's all good!

Eddy, I too recently installed a booster from a 4runner. Rather than trim the actuator rod, I put approx. 3/8" (If memory serves me) bushings on the firewall to accomodate. I haven't had any problems with it yet, but time will tell.
