Spent all day being pissed off at it AND my pig. A few months ago my 40 caught fire and damaged part of the wiring. I FINALLY got to start fixing it this week. Today I removed the burnt igniton wires and replaced them. Went to start it and it won't start. My wife and I spent all day messing with the truck. I have power to the distruibter but it's not sparking. So I went down and started looking at the ignition on my 55 as it also has a SBC and HEI ignition. I went to start it and the battery popped and sparked. Something shorted! I dove it 2 the hardware store to get parts for the 40 a freakin' hour before that and had no issues. Crap! I never did find the issue with the 55 and went back to messing with the 40 as that is what I had set out to do today. Finally ran out of daylight and had other things we needed to do. So pretty much nothing got done today other then being annoyed. :( Hopefully tomorrow I have a fresh start and it's something dumb/easy and I'm not so frustrated I can't see it. Ha ha. Sometimes that's just how things are.

I was so sure I'd have it on the road by this evening, I even called my parents to make sure they were home so I could go pick up the hard top this afternoon. I jinxed myself.

I connected all the smog hose, all 80 feet of it, so, as soon as I can get a good exhaust pipe and muffler installed, Rana is ready to go to smog inspection. Installed a 1 7/16 O-ring in the radiator over flow tank cap and I corrected the body lean by installing a 3/8" X 5" X -3" flat bar in the right rear leaf spring. Cost of that little job was about the same as the O-Ring. Good thing I didn't have to pay for the labor, though.

Lastly, I ordered a new 105 amp alternator that will be an easy slip-into-place install. I discovered BBB alternator rebuilder in Ontario and met with the resident genuis who took one look at the OEM 40 amp in my hand and said, "I started out on those. Rebuilt lots of them, way back." He understood what I wanted and quickly found a match-up in his massive file system from a 1992 to 1997 Freightliner or a Bluebird Bus. A few minutes later and that alternator was sitting on his desk next to my OEM. It's a single wire set-up but, he explained, a low watt connector is there for something like the dash lights if needed. $83.26 + tax.

Road Trip!!

I was so happy with the way it ran after a valve adjust and setting the timing we took a road trip to the rain forest.

I need an adventure everyone is posting such great photos

Totally agree. Might require a special thread. Or maybe I should just plan to go into the mountains this weekend instead of trying to find the leak that allows the water to drip onto the floor on the passenger side this morning on the way to work.

Beautiful pictures of Pilchuck, must have been before the monsoons hit. Our next adventure might be up your way, used to work in Arlington.

Rebuilt 2 wheel cylinders... 2 to go. Cleaned up an old FJ60 coolant reservoir with PLEXUS cleaner. This stuff is expensive here $25 a can. It really is like magic, though. I installed an 8 bladed aussie fan in place of my metal fan and installed the coolant reservoir.

This last week I have been sanding and prepping up a storm on the troopys body!!, now am onto the 2nd coat on the tub and 4th coats on panels and doors,it's come up a real treat also did the sump pan gasket and inspection plate gasket on my bj40 and managed to crack my thermostat housing :/, but I replaced the fan belt and ran a bit of injection cleaner through her and my fuel consumption has just dropped dramatically!! Cheerin!

nothing like a lungful of diesel in the morning, hj47 bj40... alllll mine!!!!

Haven't done anything this week but will try to go and start it....

Need to post some pics up really....

Got it fired up for the first time in months! Yay. Spent the weekend/week rewring it all only to have it NOT run when I was finished. So confusing. The distrubutor took a crap I guess... it wouldn't spark. Swapped it out with the one month old one I just put in my 55 and it fired right up on starter fluid. I've got the seats and tank out of it becuase I'm cleaning up the inside again after a year of neglet with the top off. :( Glad I did though as there is a few little spots of rust under the gas tank that I need to wire wheel and paint before they become something nasty. I also found a small crack where the seats mount so I'm going to weld that up tomorrow, paint the inside again, and put her back together with some fresh fuel and drive it off my patio (sucks not having a garage or shop) and back out into the driveway!

Also cleaned up and redid the overhead box I made when I was 16. It was ugly as sin and I made it look a little better. Still have to clean up a lot of things in the engine bay. Wiring, fuel lines, ect. But I should have it back on the road tomorrow afternoon. :) Happy to have her finally working again after not being able to enjoy her all summer. Just in time to put the hardtop on. :(
