What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? (20 Viewers)

I've always been a fan of keeping as much "stuff" inside the rig for that purpose....it accumulates all kinds of mud, dirt, snow, ice, etc when it is mounted on the exterior. Same for axes, shovels, etc. Glad your 180 didn't end with more damage than a broken bead!

Yeah wasnt the first time it's gone 180 on me. I was only doing 25-30 when it happened. The SWB combined with worn TRE's on these things makes it interesting in the snow and ice. TRE's are going in today or this weekend so I shouldn't have wandering steering anymore.

Good day

My cruiser was sitting for over a year in my driveway. Starting about 3 weeks ago:

- Put in a new battery, the other was long since dead
- Changed the oil, new air filter
- Put some quick-start in the carb, fired it up and got the fuel flowing
- Fixed a fuel leak at the aux tank electric valve
- Had my mechanic adjust the rear brakes, stops on a dime now
- Cleaned her up a bunch
- Put new fuel in, drove it around a bunch
- Replaced the original clutch and gas pedal pads (thanks, CDan)
- Changed the spark plugs (thanks, CDan)
- And today, passed my smog test with flying colors! Woohoo!

Good thing I have dual tanks, so I'm exempt from the dumb evap test. I did have to put two new gas caps to pass, though. The smog guy said it runs really clean and asked if I tune it up a lot...

My son asks what my dream car is. I say, "It's in the driveway!".

Thanks for all the help on this forum, you guys are great!

Sean.

I removed my roof cage, that cost the original owner $160 way back in 1980, and now i can hopefully park the BJ in my new houses garage once we move! :D

Put new (to me) locks in front and ambi doors that actually have keys that work. So, I will have one key for the ignition and gas cap cover, another key for front doors and a third key for the ambi doors. Gotta love it.

Flaco80-that was quite a rack for your rig. They would a great place to haul game after a hunting trip.Or haul supplies while camping.

Pulled the body off, removed the engine and drive train, sandblasted said body parts, primed some of them, painted some of them, other than that, i really haven't done much at all....

Destin, that red paint looks great, and you are well on your way.............when do plan to have it on the road..............it looks AWESOME!!!!!!

Thanks man :D

Just installed the stock heater :D

booya!

Dunno when it will be road worthy, still need to get the seats done and some bits painted, need to get all the bolts and washers painted still.

Oy a lot to do!

Finally finished re-engineering my mini-truck PS setup. Wasn't happy with the original pump bracketry so I tore it all apart and re-did it. Still not perfect, but seems to be working solidly and I eliminated the annoying (and destructive) elliptical path of the pulley when the engine was running.

When I put it all back together and fired up the engine it hemorrhaged PS fluid all over the driveway. Turns out the new custom napa PS hose had 3/8" fittings on not the metric ones - doh! Fortunately they gave me my money back since it was their error, but still left me with the original hose I was looking forward to replacing. Oh well, leaves me something else to do in the future.

Should be getting my new THC carb on monday, and center arm rebuild kit mid-week next week. Once I get the new tires on late next week, it'll be a totally new LC to drive :)

Destin, how'd you get the cowl tag so nice? Same color my 63 is, going to keep it that color too :D.

I just cleaned it wit soap in water ( it was in great shape to begin with )

If you need to touch up the black paint on yours after you clean the cowl tag, you can look at Dallas' 45 resto thread, he explains how e touched his up.

I have the ppg code for the seminole red if ya need it :D
Fawking love the color :D

I am getting my FJ40 prepped for 4.88's, a front locker, rear disc brakes, wide pattern steering knuckles and possibly a set of Longfields.

-Removed knuckle studs from one wide pattern steering knuckle. (wound up having to remove them destructively by welding a 1/2" nut to a couple of them).
-cleaned FJ60 steering arms
-painted the switch panel I made for the ARB switches.
-coated diff housing, steering arms and knuckle with rust conversion paint.
-found various parts for rear disc brake conversion.

No pics. This stuff is kinda mundane, but needs to be done so I have all the pieces and parts ready to go when I put in the new gears.

OK installed the painted brake and clutch arms with new master boots etc.
Picking up new return springs today at the hardware store.

Oh and yes i DO realize i put the steering wheel column support backwards and on the wrong sided of the dash cowl, need to pick up the red front lower facing brace tomorrow form the paint shop :D

I drove mine, on a public highway, for the first time today in a very long time. Since, ummm, George Bush, the first, was in office. I've been working on restoring it a bit but its been a hanger queen for 18 years. I seem to have more parts than time, but I decided that just putting it together, make it street legal and driving it some would increase the fun factor of the thing.

Leaving the driveway....

Looking Good !
