Pulled my tired F engine, trans, and tcase. POR-15'd the front axel and the frame from the cowl forward (didn't really need it other than around the battery area). Putting a rebuilt F back in with a four speed mated to my 3sp tcase - hopefully this weekend...ready to put it all back together.
 
After 30 years I decided to put in a tach

this week?

put in new shock bushings. cleaned up all the ground wires at the frame, and replaced the ground to alt bracket. tried to fix the headlight switch, and failed. still no cluster lights.

last week was the shorter front driveshaft. now i need one in between the new and the old.

Fabricated Motor mounts and dropped the SBC 350 into the FJ40
- Also brought home a 97' FZJ80 w/ 170K & factory diff locks

Mine: fabricated spring perches, started welding them onto the frame.

'74 I'm also building: shackle reversal, SBC dropped between the rails for placing mounts (once I find them :bang:), body is stripped, and I built a shed to hold the extra body parts since my '69 is already all over the place.
 
Bolted on my spare tire rack again after taking it off for rust removal/paint work on the tub. Looks tough again! Just broke 310000km, still going strong... For the most part :flipoff2:
 
Yesterday:
1. degreased "new" 4 speed, POR-15'd it and all linkages, "new" driveshafts, etc.
2. pulled 1 groove crank pulley off rebuilt F
3. spedi sleeved 2 groove crank pulley and installed
4. installed 4 speed bellhousing, resurfaced flywheel, finger style aisin clutch
5. had to drill and tap bellhousing to accept fork boot bracket and dustcover off of my 3 sp bellhousing

to do today:
1. stab transmission into engine
2. break apart old 3 sp trans and tcase
3. do the 4speed trans to 3 speed tcase mod
4. dress engine
5. hopefully get engine mounted in frame, we will see
 
I had oral sex with my '40 this weekend.

rebuilt parking brake this afternoon. new shoes and output shaft seal.

took longer to clean the munge off of everything than it did to do the actual work.

next up: replace the u-joints in the rear driveshaft. found one that is TOAST while i had it out.

Decided to fit an electric winch last week, so i had to fabricate a cradle; did everything at home by myself - took me a full week but im quite happy with the outcome!
(Planning, measuring, purchasing a winch, measuring, getting steel cut, measuring, measuring, drilling, checking, drilling, checking x16....................... mocking, welding, painting, final install then wiring)

Last week I gave my 40 it's first wash and detail in the 7 months since i bought her. Came up looking great. I then put her up for sale.

Today i cancelled the sale and decided to keep the beast. My :princess: actually swayed me. She said it would be hard to find another one like it and since it makes us both happy we should keep it. Awesome!:D

I did need some cash fast....but that is what loans are for! It's not worth losing an awesome Landcruiser!
