Back in 1974, Man-A-Fre was the Rochester Carb seller for land cruisers…Downey Toyota was the Holley place. I had both.. I was 21, had no money but man stuff was affordable. From my $540. monthly income I fed myself, my FJ40, paid my $110 monthly rent and took girls out.

The freakin’ Sniper was 3 months salary in that economy . As for carbs, they both ran well. From a driving viewpoint, I could not see that much difference even with the centrifugal advance distributor and headers. Yep, stuff was reasonable in costs

Semi high jack alert.. 🚨

From my $540 monthly income

Ciara 1978. Uncle Sam paid me the princely sum of $478 per month…Salad years.

High jack complete. You may now resume your regularly scheduled Forum browsing.

Nicely done!
I recently did the same with Cruiser Corps covers. I found that the foam didn't quite fill out the covers so I picked up some batting material from Wallmart and wrapped the tops and sides of the foam with it. Made stuffing the foam into the covers easier and filled it out perfectly.

Sir, you have a few years on me and I remember things being affordable. Buying my first car $500, filling it up with gas $10 and driving for a week on it, dates, and beer $1.59 a sixer. This was 1987...

@Land Shark I sure miss those days. For me it was 1970. In high school I had about $30.00 a week including tips from parking cars at a catering hall. At .28 a gallon I would fill my gas tank (old VW beetle)and drive it all week long, take my girlfriend out for McDonalds and movies. Pick up a record album here and there or an 8-track tape and save -$3-5 a week for summer hangouts. Atlantic Ocean beaches were free so summers were a big deal for us as teens. Then, they invented beach badges….50 cents on some beaches…..today I hear they are from $3.50 a day per person to $150 for a season pass.

I hate to think what my grand kids will be facing in another 10 yrs.

Line item 1 combo 2, Rochester carb, Delco dizzy, and 6 into one header = $250.00. Such a deal. Seemed like a good choice to improve performance (at the time).

After what has seemed like never ending rain, we had a nice day on Sunday, so I thought it would be safe to head across town in the blue ‘67. Unfortunately, my son and I got caught out in an unexpected storm that rolled in.

I’ve been driving it to drop my kids off in the mornings and to work, but had to jumpstart it yesterday. Last night, I traced a parasitic drain to a stuck on horn button (horns had been unplugged). Took me about 5 minutes, including referring to the diagram to check which circuit it was. For anybody thinking about re-wiring, definitely stick to the OEM diagrams/ schemes!

For the record, 40mph is too fast with the windshield down (but it made the hot day feel nice!).

Did you eat any bugs along the way?

Luckily, no…I kept my mouth closed! You know if I did it at night around this time of year, I’d look nuclear from all the lightning bugs I’d collect with my face.

Best color! Some Rustoleum satin nickel would have that front bumper looking proper in no time 😉

This combination worked wonders for my Valve Cover…and bumperettes. Sorry for the giant photo…could not get it to adjust
