After many years...(23)... multiple deployments, kids, building a new house, she was put in storage, she's almost done now!😎 Waiting on seats and do the top and doors later.

simple things make for smoother running. these crappy rubber vacuum caps for my carb keep cracking. such a small crack and i’ve had rough idle and a miss at low rpm. so i found some silicone ones. instantly my idle is normal and smooth again. i also gave it 2 extra degrees of total timing on the sbc. 36 total on a mild cam. i’ll see if it like that better. i had 34 before

That 40 is worth the wait. I like your shop also.
Thank you. Stripped her completely apart 20+ years ago and slowed gathered new old stock own parts and /or rebuilt every single piece (steering knuckles, transmission, engine, pto gear box, axles, heaters, wiring harness gauge cluster, knobs etc.... picked up a PTO winch and rebuilt it and added a factory drop down tailgate with modifications to fit my 1980 model. Working on the top as well as a factory canvas top I have. Not required in Texas but I wanted all the original smog stuff installed so I did that as well. ( May add sniper to it later, we'll see) Powder coated frame and axles etc.... and I figured I would try my hand at all the paint and prep. Turned out pretty good.....little dust nibs here and there but will buff out. Bought it from the Salvation Army as it was gifted to them to raise money. $2100.00 😁

First time working on a head. Lapped my valves, reinstalled valves/springs always fun, painted the head/block/oil pan. Realized I have new valve stem seals in my gasket kit. Huh, disassemble/reassemble lol. But now it’s righty tighty time for the engine!!! Thankfully I noticed before mounting the head.

Upgraded to an 80 series master and ended up here, as one does

I have so much planned for the fall and winter I really hope I can keep up. To start, the double seal output shaft seal, u-joints ( not really needed but it’s going to be apart ) 3.70 front and rear differentials, either new springs, shocks and bushings or just shocks and bushings, 4* caster shims, stitched steering wheel cover, brake conversion, axle seals and pinion seals.

Here’s a good one! I volunteered to help a newer, but known, friend convert his FJ40 to disk brakes. He is 9 years older than I am so he’s 80, not a computer user and not an internet guy. He asks me to acquire all of the parts needed , which I have done….and pays the costs. I just assumed I would probably be doing all of the work since he seems to have little muscle available….not that I am that much better.

I have known a few geezers who routinely run from the cold weather and head for warmer climates for a few months. It takes a little time for everything to arrive and in the interim this man tells me he too is going to Florida for the winter. Mind you it been sunny and 60* here EVERY day but his schedule was prepared months ago.

My extra but limited space has a few boxes of brake parts and associated paraphernalia… I may see him in March or April as the plan goes now. I’m not pissed but I would have felt this could have been part of the discussion 2 months ago.
