Disassembling engine. Not a lot of oil changes in this 2F’s past. One slightly bent intake valve, lots of pitting on the lifters. Still a lot more to take apart. I can see a bit of wear and some chunking on the rear cam lobes. Should have it fully apart before next weekend.

I finished rebuilding my manual steering box this weekend. I removed all of the shims and left the spacer, but I still have roughly 3 inches of play in the steering wheel. Not perfect, but much better than before. After I buttoned everything up, I went for a little drive to test it out.
I just ordered jack parts from japan on this site. Cheap too. People in the states think they have a pot of gold when they sell this stuff on eBay. This past weekend I started on my 40's interior project. I test fit the OEM roll bar and short jump seats before they get powder coated. Roll bar is getting powdered gloss black. Jump seats I'm not sure, black is correct for my year. But I think the factory pewter color would look better. Any input? After the roll bar and short jump seat project is complete I have a pair of OEM bucket seats with the metal backs to install. Everything is getting new gray SOR covers, foam, and OEM hardware.

Well, thanks…I had just spent $182 on megazip last week… clicking on your link cost me another $260.00 tonight. What kills me is seeing all of the great parts details and then looking to the right side of the page and seeing almost nothing available…the stuff you can still get is a life saver though.

I got the fj43 out of the body shop this week. The top came out great. Now onto the interior, power steering, a lift and more. Will still take about 6 months to complete but I’ll be closer to coming back to Florida. Cheers!
These are the 17inch FJ Cruiser steelies. Will I need spacers for these. Planning to run. 10.5 inch wide tire.

I have them on my 40 with no spacers. 255/75/17 tires. No issues.

Put it in winter storage/project mode. A hard decision.. but I also want to get on with the 4 speed swap. Last time I drove it, there were some non-confidence inspiring sounds coming from the 3speed. Hahaha.

It’s some Toyota red but unsure. It was painted many years ago by my dad who just picked a red on his own.

Performed a “wire-ectomy”. Removed about 3 feet of excess wire loom from the Toyota headlight upgrade kit. The excess had been coiled and zip tied but wasn’t as clean as needed. Similarly, some miscellaneous wires under the hood were shortened and put into small diameter woven loom wrap for a cleaner look. Finally, while on the operating table, removed the Dakota Digital instrument cluster and cut out several feet of excess wires and wrapped with 3m loom wrap. Afterwards it was refreshing to see a big pile of wires in the trash.
