I kept mine stock for the photos. I mailed them to NJ DMV for my historic tags. I only sent the pics they wanted.You got a friendly DMV guy when you registered this truck… I went for historic registration on Monday…had the two photos as required and they gave me a list why it was not eligible. Despite the shock absorbers (duh) The biggest issue was the winch.. I gave up…I have dealt with dmv for decades with my antique motorcycles and have made more return trips for stupid reasons and thought I had figured out all of the obstacles that could exist..but they keep making up new ones
THE Beauty OF ‘historic” tags at least in NJ is that you only pay the one-time registration fee, without the annual renewal. There are however limitations for driving..mileage limits are not really enforced but I can only imagine the story you tell if you try to explain that your on your way home from a car show at midnight….
I used Gundy for my insurance. They were half the price of my current insurance company and great to work with.
I went from the gas station to offroading to check the 4 wheel drive. Everything worked great. I left the bezel off so the bezel police don't get me. New clutch master and slave are working great. So is the rear brake propositioning valve.

It is a little sad when rare examples are destroyed or modified. But, another way to look at it is, it just makes yours that much more valuable. If I acquire one that has been modified or missing substantial parts, I weigh the pros/cons of bringing it back to stock or building something I like. Plus, I am a firm believer in the saying, it's only original once. You replace one bolt and it is now restored. Kind of like a salvaged title, you can never go back.

But, apparently those are available to just about anything, cause why have "government" decide what kinda cars you should be collecting?
I was told that getting them I could only use it to drive to/from car shows, but there is no legal definition of what a car show IS. So, don't get caught with a bunch of groceries or towing anything, or commuting, maybe an occasional drive to work to show coworkers, starbucks to show, I dunno, whoever is looking, or wherever you want to just drive around and show it off, could be legally argued to be a "car show", at least based on the private license sales office.
I'd be interested to see it do something more than just sit in a convention center... Not that I doubt it starts and runs (or could with a day or two of work), but see it in some of the rock gardens I've seen from ORV parks!!!I have binged all the Utube videos on this build I could. It is a rad rig for what it is and I would love to drive it.
It left me disappointed though. They could have built this body from Topnault panels and not destroyed and removed an original from circulation.
There is hardly any Toyota in it. Tube chassis, Currie axles, atlas tcase, transmission t350 or t400 (not sure). Interior looks nothing like Toyota.
Considering Toyota build it I wish they would have used more Toyota DNA in the build.
Edit: I have searched the TRD page for the tank tread skid, it does not appear that it is available yet.
Here in CO I found two "year of manufacture" 1969 plates on eBay (the 40 is titled as a 69 due to 11/69 on the plate, but it's a model year 70) I had to send photocopies into the DMV, then they linked the plates to the rig. I also had to get conventional collectors plates, as these are supposed to be used only for car shows and parades.
I keep these on because every time I drive it's a parade because of the line of cars behind me. But I keep the collector plates in the glovebox in case I get pulled over.
KS has a similar view of collector vehicles. Register it and get a plate, but they allow any vintage tag to be displayed. (Photo not actually taken in KS for anyone unfamiliar with the terrain here.)
It's my first trip in the neighborhood today.. .. reached 25mph.. 
Just finished fabricating & installing an exhaust in my 68 FJ40 & connecting it to a 3F-E. I used straight sections & mandrel bends since I don’t have access to a bender. It was a pain welding all the sections bubble tight . As for welding, I am getting to be pretty good at grinding.

Saw it in person. Just as unappealing as it looks in the pics. The 45 they had last year in place of this one was a much cooler rig.
